Oh no Diva - that is earning - you just have to declare the profits! So Pete paid me €1000 to keep me mouth shut. So I can deduct the following (1) heating expenses of where I operate from (2) internet connection charge asI blackmailed him over the internet (3) depreciation on the PC that I used (4) electric bills for the light in the room and charging the battery of the laptop (5) coffee to keep me awake as you need to be alert when you are blackmailing someone (6) depreciation on the furniture that I sit on as I write and (7) laundry expenses to clean up after all the sh*** that you know who fires! . So when you have all those expenses deducted you have no profit and no tax
You forgot to mention the VAT!!

I would safely say that blackmail money is zero vatted! Anyhow if your earnings are less than €25000 yu do not have to register for VAT - with the amount of expenses that I could write off from my turnover, I would never show a profit that comes near that figure!!!

So if your sailing near Spain and they charge an extra 8% vat, does that mean the ship has to send them a cheque for the amount of vat charged on drinks sold? Can someone please explain it to me it doesn't make any sense ..............................................Caro l

Basically Yes - but if they are collecting VAT and handing it over (Output tax) - they should also be able to reclaim their Input Tax (paid on their VATable purchases in Spain).

On a similar note - many Caribbean islands charge a "departure tax" including Barbados.
On a recent cruise (departing and returning to Barbados) I do not believe we were charged this, unless it was built into the cruise price
