We might be one of those sad to lose her, although we haven't sailed on her yet! My DD loves to dress up, its one of the highlights of a cruise for her so OV might not be her cup of tea. We are on Oceana in the Spring so presumably we are safe for a while! Given that we are already losing Oriana as a family ship I wouldn't want further curtailment of choice, but i suspect if this happens at all it might coincide with P&O's new big ship coming.

Our TA runs door to ship cruises. He met us off our coach to take us back to our village, and told us that he'd just been to the namimg of the new OV2, and that we wouldn't like it- too Mickey Mouse, he said.
The other couple in the car agreed that it didn't sound their scene- even though they, like us, had complained on the 17 night Aurora cruise just finished, that there wasn't anything to do during the long sea days.....the CD said that all the entertainment staff had left after the world cruise, and it wasn't worth replacing them for the 17 nighter, as only the elderly took long cruises, and:"they can't be bothered!".
We thought that OV sounded just right for us, but never had the chance to try a cruise with them.
We'd be very interested if OV returned.
We sailed on OV1 from Barbados around the Caribbean on 2 back to back cruises. The entertainment was good, as was the food even though both restaurants were buffet style. We met lots of nice people, two of whom live about a half mile away and who are now friends of ours.
Of the negative points that were made in some reviews, we didn't experience any of them and had a great time.

I think the rumour is based on this, It's the Carnival 2009 Annual report
it reads with its decision to reinstate our quarterly dividend at $0.10 per share.
Further down the report
(d) The Ocean Village brand is being phased-out with the planned transfer of its ship to P&O Cruises Australia in November 2010.

OV was closed down due to a vibrant Australian market. There were also comments in the Shipping press at the time that OV could be reactivated if suitable tonnage became available. There would be potential for tonnage to be come available after the introduction of the 3 Royal class vessels to Princess and P and O. The first of these come on line in 2013. As current brocuhures are advertising up to 2013 presently nothing will happen until then. However by this time Sun Princess will be 18 years old with the rest of the class including Oceana following. Oceana will have just entered the teen stage of life being finished in 2000.
Also it is worth remembering in Carnival as a whole there are several other ships due to come on line during this period also. So lots of potential movement between brands.

If OV is to be reinstated by rebranding Oceana it won't happen before April 2013 as P&O have already issued their brochure showing Oceana operating with them up to that date.
