A friend of mine always books through AccessibleCruising.co.uk who arrange cruises for disabled people. She said they are always really helpful and arrange a hospital bed to be delivered onboard and a hoist and shower commode! I don't know if this is the same company. I think she said you can also hire a scooter or wheelchair as well. Also they always arrange shore excursions with a vehicle where she can stay in her wheelchair. I think they are going to the Baltics this year, I wish I was!

We are thinking of going on Ventura next year. My husband will need to use a Shower commode. As we couldnt fit our own in car can you hire one in southampton to be put on ship before you depart. First time cruisers so will be a bit daunted by it all.

Have you booked a disabled cabin?

A standard cabin has no room to put a seat in the shower.

I havent actually booked yet, i am getting as much info together before i take the plunge. I will be booking a disabled cabin with balcony. Hopefully there will be room to leave a shower commode in the bathroom. I am hoping i will be able to hire one from somewhere in Southampton for the two weeks. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for the photos. my daughter has just been on the Ventura and has had a look in one of the cabins and also taken a video for me to look at. I am aware of the problems at port but to be honest we are happy go lucky and if we cant get off it wont be too big a problem. We have already been to most of the places that the ship will be calling at anyway.

That's good I did notice that the disabled lift to the top deck on Azura was out of action in March, I wonder if they have fixed it yet? looked like they were using it as a store

Grand Princess had good disabled cabins the biggest problem was tying to get a crew member who was trained to use the hoist for the pool. we ended up having to lift over the wall then it was bum shuffle, not recommended on a none slip surface.

What advice/help can you give to Deaf people-all the boats I've cruised on dont seem to realise what problems face deaf people and we are classed as disabled!
