Cruise ship 'message in a bottle' found after 7 years

Another message in a bottle from a cruise ship has been found after spending years at sea.

This one was found on an Australian beach by a couple taking a walk. The bottle had been set adrift from the Pacific Princess almost 7 years previous, by another Aussie.

Found inside was a $2 coin, a pen and a note that steered the couple to cruiser Glenda Parker, who has since shared the story of how her late husband Ross had dropped the bottle from the ship near the Vanuatu - an island in the South Pacific - nearly 1400 miles from where it was found.

"I often wondered what happened to it after Ross had died and then I got a call," Parker tells The Northern Star. "The person on the other end told me he had my bottle, (and) I just screamed ... the bottle had been traveling the ocean for more than six years."

Adds Parker: "I'd love to know where it's been."

Have you ever dropped a message in a bottle overboard? (Not that we condone it of course ;))

yes it was still against the law to throw items overboard 7 years ago.

My neighbour picked a message in a bottle up this week, and we all gathered round.....
Only a little girl from Dublin, just across the sea, but quite exciting ! I have a lifebuoy in the garden from a ship that does constant Rotterdam- Dublin runs which I sometimes watch on AIS; lots of things sail in from Ireland on the tide.
Still waiting for the cruise ship one!

Oh, I hope not!!! I contacted the coastguard, but there hadn't been an emergency....she's a cargo ship, doing the same endless round.
I did find an extra fuel tank on the beach, from an experimental plane....the 1st one had been blown up 2 days earlier by the bomb squad, as it looked like a torpedo. The coastguard in Liverpool said mine had been reported by a dog walker, but was safe....removed by tractor.

I hope it does not happen nowadays, but when i was doing a daily run across the north sea /irish sea it was quite common to find lifebuoys missing after we had arrived in port, nearly always they were found by beach walkers and reported to the coastguard who would then contact the ship/company,but it was never worth the effort to have them returned as we always carried a few spares.

while he message in a bottle is I nice idea I would prefer them not to throw bottles over the side, as a small boat owner I would not want to hit a bottle at speed as it could put a hole in my boat....so best not to throw over the side.
