We're chasing the Northern Lights with Hurtigruten in February. Anyone done this? Anyone got any tips (not gratuities- the other sort) to pass on please?

I believe I am correct in saying that you can go to bed and have the crew wake you up if the lights appear. if you don't ask for this they assume you want to be left asleep.
If you haven't booked yet try to get a ship that is as far north as possible at the time of the new moon. this gives the darkest conditions as there is no moon light and gives the best viewing conditions.
The new moons around that time are Feb 3rd and March 4th. full moon is Feb 18th so try and avoid dates close to that as the moon light can obscure the lights.
The best viewing time would be midnight local time. You really need to go as far north as Tromso if you can, the best chances will be north of 60 degrees north.
Remember there is no guarantee of seeing the lights so make sure you enjoy the cruise just for the sake of the cruise
Last tip wrap up warm and take an insulated mug with you.

If I can't be SKIING then CRUISING is the next best thing
Thanks for your input into this. We're travelling to Kirkenes (near the russian border) and therefore can't get further north in norway. p.s. We're already getting some thermals together.
