Post No need to fly! Star Clippers introduces "Rail & Sail"

Star Clippers has introduced a number of 'rail and sail' packages aboard Star Flyer, which will enable Brits to take the train to the south of France to join the ship, instead of having to fly there.

The rail-cruise packages will include all meals, return rail travel from London, a night’s B&B in a four star hotel in Monaco or Nice and non-UK tranfers to and from the ship plus all port taxes.

The Star Flyer itineraries depart from Cannes or Monaco on June 4, September 10 and October 1.

Not familiar with Star Clippers? I just found this on youtube you may like to watch [get yourself a cuppa first though, it's a bit long!]

Have you ever cruised on a traditional tall ship? How does it compare to regular cruising?

    Hi

We sailed on Star Flyer about five years ago, around the coast of Italy and it was wonderful.

Not at all like a cruise ship - cabins rather small with portholes but the food was good and the service too.

Much more casual and no engine noise at night.

Have also sailed around Croatia on an old tall ship which was very basic but again magical.

    Highly recommend it.

Two of my favourite modes of transport. Looks quite interesting but maybe a bit too informal for me, it is part of my holiday to dress up a bit for dinner...Carol

Do you think I can sue? I have been banging on about getting eurostar to the south of france and joining your ship there for ages.

    Sailing

In my view there is nothing beter than using only wind power for movement. I have spent a lot of time on small boat self crew sailing holidays until I felt I needed the rest. Wth the tall ships I would want the chance of climbing the masts and feeling for the wind, great fun. Also with tall ships it is easier to tell when the sun has gone over the yardarm and it is time to splice the mainbrace. Those were the days in the RN when you got your tot, do they provide it on the tall ships??
