We too sailed on Royal a few years back - and agree that she is just like a country house hotel. We just love the size of the ship, and were devotees of the old Sea Princess/Victoria. So with two cruises booked on her this year, and two next, we do hope we aren't disappointed, although I guess that the P&O cuisine will be nowhere near the quality served by Princess. This for us is important and if P&O could source its catering from the suppliers to Princess, certainly many cruisers would be happy.
For this year we have the Baltic cruise at the end of June - and then a long cruise to the Black Sea later in the year, hence the importance of the cuisine question. We can only hope!!
This is interesting to me as I was worried about the Country Manor discription of the Adonia. This is why I cancelled my booking I made over a year ago, and rebooked on Cunard.
Now I have sailed on the old Sea Princess before she became Victoria, ten or more times. I used to sail on her three or four times a year. I just loved the old Sea Princess. I had so many wonderful cruises on her and made friends that I still have till this day. However, that was around 25 plus years ago and things change and times change. I doubt I would be as " in love" with the old Sea Princess style now a days. People have changed and the the type of passengers who sailed on Sea Princess are now few and far between. It was a very dressy ship and very formal with silver service at the tables.
I await to read the reviews of this revamped "R" ship The Adonia. I may well be suprised!
I moved on to Princess Cruises after Sea Princess became Victoria and I really liked the then new Princess ships. I was on the maiden voyage of both Star Princess in 1989 and the Crown Princess in 1990 ( now operates as the Pacific Jewel) they were great ships. The Star Princess later became Ocean Village. So really I moved on from the country manor theme and for the last 15 years been a Cunard addict.
