    Life gets tougher for smokers
Carnival Cruise Lines,, Holland America ,and Princess Cruises
have announced more restrictive smoking policies.
Effective January 15, 2012, Princess will no longer allow smoking in cabins and balconies across its fleet, although it will allow smoking in the Churchill’s cigar lounge, a section of the disco and casino, and a portion of the open decks.

On the same date, Holland America’s new smoking policy designates all cabins as non-smoking areas, though smoking will still be permitted on cabin balconies. In addition, designated public areas are available both inside and on outside decks.

Carnival’s policy changes are to be rolled out in two steps:
l As from June 15, 2011, cigarette smoking in public venues is permitted only in Carnival’s dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar. Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated open deck areas (starboard side) of all ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor.
l Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all cabins. Anyone in a balcony cabin will be permitted to smoke cigarettes and cigars outside on the balcony. Spa staterooms – currently provided aboard Carnival Splendor, Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic – remain entirely smoke-free, including on the balconies.

All three lines cited consumer studies showing that only a small number of passengers smoke. A $250 cleaning fee is the penalty for breaking the rules.

    Spartan,
I only posted this because Holland America and Carnival Cruise lines had also made this decision as only 'Princess' had been posted on this board by Neil D. a few weeks ago and no other information was posted on any other sites.

So, we now have three major cruise lines going through this cycle.

Offf to bed now,, chat tomorow /Rob

Believe it or not but this is a fairly fast revolution.

Smoking is gradually being restricted, as are the areas in which people can smoke.

When you consider that restrictions didn't start until comparatively recently so it is moving at a pace.

It was not too long ago, in my experience anyway, that our government gave cigarettes to the forces and encouraged smoking. My father used to talk about going to "Smoking Concerts".

So we move forward, some of us consider it to be too slowly, but progress is being made. Smokers now feel the restrictions whereas a few years ago they could smoke where they liked within safety parameters. They still talk about opening up "one side of the ship” to smokers but as we have said continually, that will never happen and smoking is on its way out. ......Neil

I wonder how the ships will handle people with E-Cigarettes ...
Night time and you see a glow or do you see vapour in the restricted areas
