Dozens of taxi drivers in Swansea are being trained to become tour guides as the city prepares itself for an anticipated surge in cruise ship arrivals.
According to the South Wales Evening Post, the Swansea docks are set to benefit from a marked increase in the number and frequency of cruise vessels stopping by, thanks in no small part to the money that has been spent rejuvenating a number of 'Celtic' ports over recent years.
And, with this in mind, Swansea's cabbies are reportedly being encouraged to join a new scheme geared towards making them 'Abertawe ambassadors', with all the local knowledge they need to keep tourists entertained and informed.
Speaking to the newspaper, one future cab-driving ambassador said: "There are so many things to see in the area - from Gower to Oystermouth Castle, to the Dylan Thomas links - and knowing a bit about them will help visitors."
Just last month, Dublin City Council outlined its plans to boost the Irish capital's attractiveness to the world's biggest cruise operators.
