Post NCL offers Bill Cosby, wine & credit for Alaska delay

Bill Cosby will be performing aboard Norwegian Pearl for one night only this Sunday (24th July). He's doing two complimentary 70-minute comedy shows, while the ship is docked in Seattle for technical repairs.

The NCL ship will overnight in Seattle and depart on Monday for a seven-day Alaska Glacier Bay cruise. But because of the delayed departure, the ship will bypass its call in Juneau, Alaska.

“We understand that missing Juneau will cause disappointment for some of our guests, so we wanted to do something very special to make the cruise memorable,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian’s chief executive officer. “Bill Cosby is a huge name in entertainment and we felt that he would deliver an incredible show. We are very pleased to have Mr. Cosby performing on board Norwegian Pearl.”

During the Seattle stay, passengers will be not only enjoy the Bill Cosby performance as compensation, but will also receive $150 onboard credit per stateroom, future cruise credit of 10% of the cruise fare paid per guest, plus complimentary house wine with dinner, 50 percent off on specialty restaurants’ cover charges.

Sound like a good deal? Have you experienced an itinerary change after you booked?

My wife and I went on a R.C.I. cruise onboard Navigator of The Seas on its Inaugural seaso n from Southampton. This was a cruise to Scandinavia and the Baltics (well worth doing),we were due to call at Finland but the dock had not been dredged deep enough so we could not dock.We were informed of this before we set sail and I complained that this was a major alteration to the cruise and got a refund of £200.No one else we met on the cruise had complained so they got nothing back.If your cruise is altered complain you could get a refund.Nothing ventured Nothing gained.

The customer should always come first. As Paul Simon said, keep the customer satisfied. I can't imagine Thomsons getting Bill Cosby though in a simiar hiatus. Maybe Bill Tarmey.

We were on this cruise and never thought of complaining as the overnight stop in Copenhagen more than made up for the change.
Still remember going under the Oresund bridge with 90cm (about 3 feet) to spare. Think that may have been the only cruise Navigator did in the Baltics.

Change of itiinery on a cruise

In 2006 I booked the Pyramids and Holy Land cruise on Thomson's Calypso for my 60th birthday in 2007. Within a couple of months I was watching the news where they were reporting a number of ships having trouble, either with virus's on board or technical problems. They mentioned that the Calypso was towed into Southampton having had a fire in her engine room. I rang Thomson's and they told me not to worry as the ship would not be signed over to them 'til it was certified safe. Later the neighbouring country started bombing one of the ports of call in the north of Israel, so I rang again, the person on the phone knew nothing about it and still said the cruise was going ahead. Not long after that, a bomb went off in Antalia, another port of call on the cruise. Again I was told the cruise was still going ahead. My cruise was booked for April, 2007, so I was getting a little worried when I received a letter from Thomson's saying there was a change in the itinery, change!. There was only ONE port of call that was on the original itinery and that was Antalya, where there had been the bomb, unbelievable. The rest of the cruise was round the Greek Isles. When I rang to say this was not the cruise that I had booked they said, in a short manner, that I wasn't entitled to my money back. I was very upset, as a pensioner, and single traveller, I couldn't afford to right off the money. After I put down the phone I decided to check the terms and conditions in the back of the brochure and found that if there was a major change that I would get all my mooney back, so I rang back and got a different person, who was much more pleasant, who told me that in the circumstances of the shelling still going on, yes I could have all my money back. Of course I then had to look for something else that had vacancies for the time that I wanted. I got booked on a Nile cruise with another travel company. Best holiday I have ever had

Only 'blip' we had so far was on return voyage from Med a couple of years ago (think it was on Ventura). The tailend of a hurricane was apparently affecting Eire towards England so Captain decided to take a wide berth of Bay of Biskay & miss our stop in Vigo. Our compensation was not being sick as dogs & I don't know if anyone complained!
