    Post Oops! Cruise ships collide

Two Carnival ships ships bumped into each other in Florida last week.

According to an official statement, Carnival Fantasy was about to dock when it "slightly touched the overhang structure" of the already-moored Carnival Imagination.

It was a minor scrape - nobody was injured, but as per standard protocol, the line notified the U.S. Coast Guard who conducted alcohol and drug testing for those personnel in safety-sensitive positions.

Hi It wasn't Capt Smith at the wheel, was it; with Bruce Ismay at his side demanding more speed.

Wind and/or currents are normally to blame.

Plus a slight malfunction of one of the thrusters,or maybe one of the masters subordinates was at the controls.

Must have been in a tight mooring space, regardless the Captain is in charge and one would hope they allow for a safety space much like two A380's taxing to adjoining gates with their wing spans. One cannot afford to make a mistake.
Quite sure , new protocols will arise , lessons learned, adjustments to thrusters , engines.
    We will know eventually..

When i was berthing master at felixstowe when berthing the largest container ships we would allow 7 metres each end as a safety margin between ships.
