    Post Norwegian Spirit & Dawn Get A Million-Dollar Make-Over

Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed that both Spirit and Jade will enter dry docks this month for multi-million dollar improvements.

Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer, said: “While we have the youngest fleet in the industry, we still want to continuously enhance our ships.

“With the dry docks of Norwegian Spirit and Norwegian Jade, we will have completed enhancements on four ships this year, a major investment for the company.” He added.

Norwegian Spirit enters a 13-day dry dock on September 25, in Alabama, US.

    The refurbishment will include:
    • Installing wifi access throughout the entire ship including crew areas
    • New flat screen televisions in guest and crew staterooms
    • Upgrades to accessible guest staterooms and the addition of ramps in various areas
    • Replacement of 64,000 square feet of carpet throughout the ship
    • Addition of new silk plants throughout the ship
    • Enhancements to the Stardust Theatre
    • Addition of an aerobics room in the Spa and Fitness Centre for spinning, yoga and various fitness classes
    • Updates to Raffles Court, the ship’s buffet restaurant
Norwegian Jade enters dry dock in Marseille, France on November 26, 2011 to December 8, 2011. During this time, the 2,402-passenger ship will receive the line’s signature Brazilian steakhouse, Moderno Churrascia, replacing Paniolo’s Tapas and Salsa restaurant on Deck 8. The ship will also receive technical enhancements including new propeller and thrust bearings; seals on the Azipod propulsion systems; as well as a new coat of hull paint.

Have you been on either of these ships? What do you think of the planned enhancements? Is there anything else you think NCL could do to enhance their ships?

we have been on the jade. the jewel (twice),the wind. please ncl dont make the colour scheme as gordy as it has been. one good feature on the carpets in the stateroom corridoor, the fish always swim to the front of the ship, helps you find your way around. apart from that we like ncl for customer service.

I hope they replace the TVs in the staterooms on the Jade. 14" CRT screens just do not cut it nowadays.

Had super cruises on Jade, food, freedom dining, customer service, need I go on. Excellent and has become one of our favourties. Cant think of anything else I would change. Dining has always raised a few rumbles but we usually shared tables in the evening when it is busy and the maitre d then always gave us a table for two for breakfast and lunch for being so flexible when they were busy. Hope nothing goes wrong on the refit and its back in time for April!!

I have just noticed that Norwegian Jade is now in dry dock in France today (26 Nov). We have been on the Jade 3 times - our last cruise being Aug 2011 a back2back from Venice. We hope they will replace the Hawaii paintings and fittings and kept to a general theme. We discovered a squeaky floorboard in the Alizar Main Dining Room in 2008 and it was still there in 2009. Speaking to a waiter in August, it is still there!!

Ah! The Jade is something special and we loved the Alizhar restaruant. I know it had the same menu as the other DR (cannot remember the name) but it had great atmosphere!
Blue Lagoon - love the comfort food!
I like the Hawaii theme and lets face it - it tells a great story!

Just confused about the OP. Heading refer to Spirit and Dawn and the passage talks about the Jade?

Yes I also noticed the heading. But I think the Dawn also has had a refit. We have been on the Dawn and the Epic. We met a couple from New Zealand on our 1st cruise on the Jade and we always pretended to rub the copper still by the Alizhar restaurant. We took a picture of me rubbing it in August and emailed it to them. We did get some strange looks! The other main dining room is Grand Pacific and had most of our meals in there. There was a waiter who made figures, flowers, etc out of the napkins.

Norwegian Dawn had a refit last JUNE when she had more suites made and more family rooms as well as getting a new engine to replace the one that had been broken for at least 6 months. They had to cut a huge hole in her side to take the old one out and put the new one in. We were on the last cruise before it went into dry dock.

We were on the Dawn in Nov 2009 going back to Miami when the engine stopped and we drifted for about 5 hours. No lights on the stairways and corridors. No lifts, no evening entertainment and some of the restaurants were closed. We finally got going and limped into San Juan, Puerto Rico for an overnight stay. We were allowed out to the port in the evening. The staff were wonderful throughout the day. A waiter in a bar we used, saw us on the deck and brought out a table from the bar for us to use. Planes took us the next morning to Miami. Just hope everything is now ok with the engines.
