Post Ras Al Khaimah - is it on your bucket list?

In a bid to attract more cruise business, Ras Al Khaimah will soon be adding another attraction to it's shores.

A new two-story museum at the local Pearl Farm will offer visitors the opportunity to select an oyster from the water, open it and keep the pearl inside. They will also learn about pearl cultivation and see a collection of special natural pearls in different shapes and sizes. It's the first museum of its kind in the UAE.

Arguably the most scenic and varied of the Emirates, Ras Al Khaimah not only offers sandy beaches, lush plains, mysterious desert and the rolling Al Jeer Mountains. But in neighbouring Musamdam, you'll find spectacular fjords - something you would never expect to see in this part of the world.

Not sure where Ras Al Khaimah is, or what's there? Watch this official RAK Tourism video to find out... [Be warned, it's quite long!]

Have you ever been to the UAE? How was it for you? If not, is it somewhere you'd like to cruise to?

Ras Al Khaimah is about 65 mile north of Dubai, I stayed there earlier this year.

Great for a chill out pre cruise, but no rail links to Dubai, so it's taxi or shuttle bus only.

If you've seen and done Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah is an alternative option.

If you're hoping to do and see Dubai as well, forget it. A 130 mile round trip takes up most of your day and wallet..........Wilba

When we were in Hawaii there is a shop there where you can buy an oyster and open it to see if it has a pearl inside, so their idea is certainly NOT original.

That's the cheap part .....then the assistant invites you to buy a necklace or ring to fit the pearl into at a further cost- been there done that years ago in Hawaii!
