Carnival Cruise employee charged over sex act

A Carnival Cruise Line worker was yesterday (November 22nd) charged with engaging in sexual acts with a minor.

Kert Clyde Jordan, from Grenada, was working as a waiter on the cruise ship when the incident occurred on November 4th.

Mr Jordan works onboard the Carnival Liberty cruise ship, which sails from Miami to the Caribbean with ports of call including St Maarten, San Juan and Cozumel.

According to report, the 35-year-old has been accused of coaxing a 14-year-old girl into a bathroom on board the lido deck of the cruise ship, while the liner sailed in international waters.

After returning home from the cruise holiday, the unnamed girl revealed the encounter to her parents who promptly contacted the police to report the crime.

Mr Jordan was subsequently arrested on Saturday night and charged during a court hearing on Monday (November 21st).

After news of the arrest broke, the cruise company released a short statement saying: "Carnival has a zero tolerance policy from crime and we take any allegations of crime extremely serious".

"We continue to provide our full cooperation and support to federal law enforcement authorities,"

A pre-trial hearing is set for December 1st.

This disgusting crime should result in a guilty perpetrator suffering the penalty. I wondered though, if the incident happened in International waters, which country's police force arrested him and where he would stand trial. Anybody have any information?

Am I the only one who has a smidgeon of sympathy for those [especially males] who are accused of sex crimes and then 'named and shamed' pre trial?

They may indeed be found guilty [and then they deserve what ever is due], but there again, they could be the target of malicious accusation and if not guilty, this is one area where 'no smoke with out fire' seems to stick with a huge stigma.

As to where the trial takes place, I would have thought [with no actual maritime legal knowledge] it would be where the ship's company is registered.

In the thread i started last month re crimes on cruise ships. The link to the organisation i gave said,,,,
The US passed a law that gave the right for the FBI to prosecute any crime on a cruise ship, wherever it happened,,if that ship docked in a US port.

    Mrs M.
I am in agreement with you. I know of a man who was named in his community and although he was found to be not guilty by a court of law, most who were acquainted with him did not accept him or his family from then on. "No smoke without fire".

The so called victim had planned to accuse this male family member, in order to try for compensation, had he been found guilty.

It has scared many men into distancing themselves from young females and in my opinion is a terrible shame and loss to both the girls and the men.

    Hi Mrs M & JC

No Mrs M, you are not the only one who is sympathetic to the accused when they may be not guilty of the accusation yet be stained for life. I took care to say "guilty perpetrator suffering the penalty" but was actually questioning who the prosecuting authority should be. I must admit that I thought the same as you, that the country of registration would be the answer.

Thanks JC for the info - it would be reassuring for US citizens to know that. I must have a look at the thread you mention as so many cruise ships operating out of the UK are now registered in "Outer Mongolia et al", I can't imagine any of our weak-willed governments putting their foot down to protect the interest of UK citizens in the same way. You only have to look at the one-sided extradition agreement our politicians agreed with the US.

I am in total agreement with you. Revealing this much information could well be detrimental not just to a trial but his whole life. It's totally wrong. ......Neil

The FBI will investigate if the victim or perp are US citizens, and in various other circumstances....

It does happen that way too..

Of course HE will get all the blame, but she's had her fun.
    What does she care?

Please remember that the person involved is innocent until proved guilty. There are many such cases which when all the evidence is in are proved to be false. A friend was arrested for a similar charge many years ago, he was proved to be completely innocent, it was a malicious accusation from the girl, yet the incident ruined his life. If the case is proven then he deserves all that he gets.
