A woman has accused the Church of Scientology of holding her against her will on their cruise ship the Freewinds, according to reports from the Australian Broadcasting Network.
Valeska Paris was born into a family of Scientologists and soon became an avid follower of the religion.
However, things turned sour when her father accused the Church of Scientology of stealing his fortune. After he committed suicide, Miss Paris’s mother went on television to denounce the religion.
Miss Paris was ordered to have no further contact with her family as a result of the comments.
Leader David Miscavige is then thought to have ordered her aboard the Freewinds scientology cruise ship where she allegedly stayed for 12 years against her will, according to the reports.
Ms Paris said: “I did not want to be there. I made it clear that I didn’t want to be there and that was considered ‘bad ethics’ meaning it was considered not right.”
The Church of Scientology uses the cruise ship to deliver top level counselling training as part of Caribbean cruises.
Cruise ships have a specific connection to Scientology creator L.Ron Hubbard, who is thought to have created the first teachings of the religion while on board his private liner.
