Crystal Cruises is looking to take advantage of a few New Year's resolutions by extending the range of fitness classes available on 18 of its cruise holidays.

Under the plans, a selection of Crystal Cruise liners will feature expanded pilates and yoga programmes, aimed at offering gentle exercise options for holidaymakers.

The offering comes as Healthy Magazine editor Jane Druker called on those looking to tackle health and fitness in January to avoid making "grand promises to yourself".

She urged individuals to "start small but commit to it" with gentle exercise like yoga offering a potential option.

Starting this month, these additional classes will feature aboard the Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity cruise ships, with nine sailings on each boat set to include the exercise options.

The Crystal Serenity will be offering a pilates reformer programme while the Crystal Symphony will provide more classic floor based training.

Yoga sessions will also be provided for men and couples on the ships, with instructors looking to revise the more traditional yoga exercises.

Crystal vice president of international sales and marketing Philip Ordever promised that the classes would help in "achieving results without pain, creating a balanced mind and body or providing detailed attention to each individual’s needs".

He added that the programme had been introduced as part of a new approach to cruises as "multi-faceted holiday experiences".

Do you think this is a good idea? Will you be doing more exercise onboard?
