GENOA is designated as the home port for western med cruises on MSC , so lifeboat drill takes place as she departs Genoa.
For eastern med cruises Venice is the designated home port and i think the Irish get on at the next stop --Bari

And No I'm not pulling your leg

As far as I remember they have life-jackets for small infants and babies.

Scans of the daily programme showing the facts coming in ~5 min

Thanks Pete - I am shocked!

I see you were in BCN the day after we got on the NCL Jade in Oct 2010.

Is all aboard time on MSC 45 mins rather than the usual 30 mins before sailaway?

I love the prize of a free excursion in Tunis for one person - it would be just typical if Mai won it - let her off on her own!

Do MSC provide shuttles in Marseilles and Genoa also? Do they all cost €8? Are shuttles needed in La Goulette?

Wouldn't want to win the prize. In fact on this cruise we stayed aboard at TUNIS as we'd done it before and were not impressed

All aboard times were 30 mins at every port except Genoa. The extra 15 min gives time for the drill before sailaway

They did have shuttles in Marseille (€15) don't know about Genoa as we had airport buses, and no shuttles were required in Tunis (La Goulette)

Did you notice the Captain's name?

Yes I had noticed - rather unfortunate! He must feel like a right dick!

Gee the Marseille port shuttle is a bit saucy! Is it out of the Q to walk?

The docks are about 4 -5 miles from the picturesque fishing harbour so it's a long walk. best if you share a taxi sort of mini bus. Have a look at google earth and you'll see the port NW of the city, I think it's a COSTA boat in port ............CONCORDIA ??

It's just really very awful. They also have at least 8 dead people due to panic... The ship run on ground ....

see also here (German only, but maybe with google translator of help?)
Kreuzfahrtschiff vor Italien verunglückt: 8 Tote - Vermischtes - Tagesschau - Schweizer Fernsehen

Whomever-fault this was... We were all VERY lucky to get home safe - always !
Since it can happen to any ship big enough to catch strong winds... I had to think of my mother's safe return on the MSC Fantasia after a really heavy storm in the Mediterranean along the Blearic Islands on her way to Rome (equal to the one we had on our QM2-route out of Quebec to NY). And one more thing we learn: it does not need ice bergs or the North Atlantic to get things like this happen....

I got thrown out of bed with these news at 06:00 am by my radio (forgot to turn the alarm off). I was really wide awake, I can tell you.

My depest sympathy to all the relatives and friends of those who had to die or suffer bad from this incidence...

Best regards from southwest Germany at the Swiss border
