Here is another link on the topic (got it from the German forum), www.giglionews.it, but it's quite down due to high "traffic"..., maybe access it a little later. Should show latest situation of the ship... awful...

BBC news is reporting that she hit a sand bar and that some passengers jumped into the sea and swam the 400 metres to shore. The listing of the ship made it difficult to launch the lifeboats and that the situation is worsening.

Just put tv on and the pictures are unbelievable...Carol

And only 12 mins left in Friday 13th!
You are on the ball Grant - posted 3 mins after the event. If I didn't know better, I'd say you had something to do with it!
Joking aside - hope all 4000 are ok! Second one in a week - not a good one for Italian lines, was it?
Hi Tomvet..... I was just checking the Twitter streams before heading to bed and this started coming through then BBC & Sky News ran the breaking news story. Major incident. First comments from one of the kids on the sofa this morning "I'm never cruising again" - let's hope not too many think that way.

I didn't know, it's allowed to publish webcam-pics here. In the German forum it's not, that's why I only provided the link....

This terrible tragedy will no doubt put some people off cruises. Such awful news and I suspect it could be the end of the Costa brand. It is so shocking because you really don't think this type of thing will happen on a modern cruise ship. People have mentioned the muster drills having renewed importance but in this scenario it sounds like it was complete chaos once the order to abandon ship was given.

You never know, how different nationalities react in situations like that due to their temper... no matter, how good they were drilled for these situations... I feel also very sorry for the staff trying to keep the guests calm... wouldn't want to be in their situation then... Some guests stated that it was like in the "TITANIC"-movie, when the ship went on the side and all the vases and plates fell of the table/stations. Most probably also the panic was the same... unfortunately.

I think there is still quite a bit of uncertainty as to how quickly she did list over to her current position semi-submerged. Very sad that there has been loss of life, currently numbered at 6 or 8 people, not clear if that is crew or passengers.
