The cruise holidays that travellers choose in 2012 will be decided by affordability rather than itinerary, according to the Post Office's head of travel money Sarah Munro.
This assertion follows the findings of the latest Travel Money Survey from the provider, which suggested holidaymaker choices will be based on affordability rather than aspiration.
According to the research, cheaper trips to destinations in Europe like Spain, Portugal, Greece and Turkey will benefit from the change in focus.
Those cruise companies offering low cost deals or all-inclusive packages are also likely to benefit from the renewed focus on costs.
The study showed that Spanish holiday resort prices have fallen by around 40 per cent in the last five years.
According to the Post Office research, the cost of eight typical items in the Costa del Sol including a dinner for two with wine is now priced at just over £35 on average.
Miss Munro said: "Holidaymakers will be looking very carefully at their own finances before committing to a holiday and eagle-eyed in searching out trips that represent genuine good value."
Is price going to be your biggest concern when looking at cruises in 2012?
