I agree, as soon as they get off the captain is probably glad to get rid of them, can't be doing with all that brown nosing no point, I'd rather read a book.

I'm sure he/she is but don't worry. The Captain won't see it as brown nosing as it's part of the his/her job.

We have been to very few Captains parties as we're usually getting changed/can't be bothered, but the drinks are reasonably priced and the Captain doesn't have to talk to me if I don't want.

Most foreigners in this country get out of employing British people by keeping their business in the family. Of course, when they have been here for any length of time they will reproduce so their offspring become English and on it goes. We have seen what happens to wildlife when a foreign animal is introduced to Britain. The grey squirrel for instance. But of course its not only Britain that has suffered over the years. I'm sure America has too. There should be a limit to foreign workers coming into any country for this reason. That is, if you want to protect your own country and the workplace. And any foreigner who wants to open a business here and applies for grants to do so should be made to pay back the grants they have been given if they take that business abroad for cheap labour.

As we seem to be going off topic here. Lets get back on track. Someone has mentioned that the Captain of the stricken cruise ship was dining at the time of the crash so how can he be blamed for it? Its a bit like someone borrowing your car and driving it into a brick wall and then blaming you for it. If he wasn't in the driving seat at the time then someone else must have banged it up. After all, not only does he need to eat but he must sleep sometime. Does an aeroplane only have one pilot? If not, would the one flying it at the time be responsible for crashing it?

The ship left Chit(rome) at about 1830 maybe he was having dinner in one of the specialality dining rooms, but you can bet your bottom dollar that he was up on the bridge for the approach to the island.

It was the Captain's fault, or so I am led to believe. We were on a cruise at the same time. My condolences are sincere for those who lost their lives.

Ah well, I'm afraid I am one of the ones who have jumped on the band wagon and got a cruise at massively discounted price (especially for single) on Costa Magica dep Barcelona on Tuesday 22 May. As stated before I should imagine that pre-cruise procedures will be strictly enforced and I can also state that I am one of those on an airplane or ship that pays very little attention to the spiel. However, what I do do, and have always done, is acquaint myself to the various exits, procedures etc on whatever mode of transport I am on to be used in an emergency. I am not an idiot and do not need these things told to me like I am a moron but appreciate that some people never see beyond the end of their nose so it is necessary for some people - but not all! If you are intelligent enough to seek information and know what to do in an emergency you will survive (probably). If you're not, you won't (possibly). Why do we all need to be treated like moronic sheep just to cater to the few who are too lazy/stupid/plain ignorant?

    Sorry - rant over!
