I have just entered the Celebrity cruise competition on Classic fm, and was amazed to read a report from an executive of the Costa company accusing the SURVIVORS of sensalionasm and that their claims that no one helped them was outrageous.Read this report it is amazing and totally unfair in my opinion. These people have lost personal possesions, their holidays and some people have lost their lives. Her wages were paid for by the people who she is slagging off. The fact that probably some passengers were rescued by crew members many weren't and made their own way ashore.,in the dark and the panic none of us know how we would react.

Cruise Ship Captain: I Fell Into Lifeboat
..........Its a shame the people that died or are missing did not do the same.
We have been on the Costa Allegra and the Costa Marina, and enjoyed them both.
We will sail with Costa again, if they are going where we want to go.
Our thoughts and prayers go to the passengers and crew and especially to the families of those who lost their lives
and those who are still missing.
God bless all who sail.
I've a feeling that this is a decision people may not have to make in the future since it is unlikely, after this dreadful disaster and the poor past safety record of Costa, that the brand will survive.
Rather, as in the case of the 1987 Townsend Thoresen ferry accident, which was subsequently rebranded P&O Ferries I would think Carnival will absorb the current ships into their other cruise lines thus endeavouring to draw a line under the tragedy.
I read that these ships have a proscribed course and any deviation from that has to be logged. I also read that this particular captain had pulled this stunt before, steering too close to the island and approaching from a different direction to impress his relatives. If this is the case, those in charge at Costa had not cautioned him against doing it. They should have known, I think, because there is probably a computer log of the actual course followed for each sailing.
So, if the captain had a history of doing this and Costa should have known, they should not be diverting all the blame to this guy.
Also, someone affiliated with a travel magazine made a comment that with the number of passengers these modern cruise ships carry, he doubted that a rescue in the high seas would/could include everyone.
Do we know for a fact that there are enough lifeboats for everyone to fit into?
Another issue is how these ships are constructed. They are supposed to have a double hull to prevent sinking if they hit anything. Were both hulls, in this instance, compromised?
They are supposed to also, if they take on water, be able to right themselves. This is why the lifeboats could not be lowered - the ship listed and did not self correct. Why? Was it floating freely in the water and this mechanism failed?
There are such things as rogue waves, which can destroy cruise ships and these ships are not built to withstand such things.
In short, it is easier to blame and address human error issues, but I would like to see a better reporting of the actual safety features of the ship, whether they are sufficient, and if they actually worked.
