Former Conservative MP Lord Douglas Hurd is set to speak aboard two cruise holidays with Swan Hellenic Discovery Cruising this summer.

Lord Hurd is to be a key guest speaker on two of the firm's summer cruises, with the former home and foreign secretary set to feature aboard both trips.

According to the firm's website, the former MP for Witney is set to speak aboard the Grand Mediterranean and Adriatic trip set for August 1st 2012.

He will also feature on the company's Venice and Adriatic cruise set for August 15th, 2012.

The booking of Lord Hurd could prove a divisive one among cruise holidaymakers, with the former MP for Witney previously employed as a key member of Margaret Thatcher's government.

Daily Mirror cruise critic John Honeywell is among the dissenting voices stating: "For what it's worth, I reckon Hurd's a bit of a dry old stick."

The booking of Lord Hurd comes as the newly released film The Iron Lady, hits cinema screens with Meryl Streep in the role of Mrs Thatcher and Paul Bentley in the role of Hurd.
