There is too much conflicting, supposition surrounding this awful disaster. I am going to sit back and wait for the official version, which I hope the Italian Courts will be able to extract from all the witnesses.
In the meantime this will not make the slightest difference to my plans to take cruises in the future, no more than a road accident will put me off driving my car.
I have divided thoughts on this tradegy. First one was what a blood idiot took his very precious cargo (passengers) that close to an island he is totally responsible and needs to be brough to justice. Then the second thought. He turned the ship round and took it closer to shore. How many people would have died it they were 3 miles out to sea when the ship listed, so did he act properly taking it to shallow water closer to land. A visiual rescue, land, or miles of sea. I know what my choice would be. I will leave you to ponder both. my thoughts are with the families that have lost and are still wondering.
What I really can't understand is how a woman passenger can be on the ship but not on the official passenger list? What if she had been one of missing who would have know that. The other thing is how can Costa be so damn strick at passenger check in and on security on boarding and embarking but yet seem to have let someone on their ship who didn't exist. How many employees or past employees do the let on secretly or is it they allow officers to bring any wafe and stray on when they feel like it. The other issue here is that if this woman wasn't on the official passenger list are their others who were on the ship that no one admits to knowing about, that have not been accounted for due to this. Costa has a lot to answer for and it is appauling that they are still allowing their ships to pass along the same route by the island which they have said is not the correct route.
I follow the whole sorry saga on Italian TV. When you hear recordings in the actual Italian it's all so unbelievable. I'm sure we've all made mistakes while at work but few in history (apart from going to war) have messed up to the extent the Concordia Captain did.
