Passengers enjoying a cruise holiday aboard Princess Cruises' Ruby Princess liner were treated to a show of heroics as the crew rescued three stranded sailors.

Sailing around the Samana Cay region of the Bahamas, the crew of the cruise ship picked up a distress call from the party on Monday (January 23rd).

According to reports, the trio of French nationals became stranded after embarking on a sailing trip to the north-east of Cuba.

Sailing along a familiar route, the group soon encountered problems when the three-hulled vessel they were travelling in lost navigational power.

Stranded miles from port, the crew sent out a distress signal in the hope of being rescued.

The crew of the Ruby Princess subsequently picked up their message, changing course to find the ship.

Once the vessel was located, the cruise ship opted to dispatch a lifeboat to intercept the crew, with passengers aboard the ship watching on in appreciation.

The story is the second time Princess Cruises has hit the headlines in recent weeks, after the Star Princess was turned away from the Falklands Islands following an outbreak of Norovirus.
