Around one in ten Britons could be planning to go aboard during the Olympic Games this summer, with some potentially opting for cruise holidays.
According to a survey of 2,018 people in the UK commissioned by the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), 12 per cent of Britons plan to go abroad during the sporting event.
This summer see the Olympics come to London for the first time in over 100 years, with huge crowds expected in and around the capital city.
Many fans will also watch on from home during the two-week sporting spectacle, which runs from July 27th to August 12th. However, with so much congestion expected in London, many will look upon the Games as an excuse to get away for a couple of weeks.
The older generation were least keen on the games, according to the ABTA research, with 22 per cent of 0ver-65s planning to head overseas with 18 per cent of 55 to 64 year-olds also heading abroad.
Cruise holidays could potentially prove a popular option, with a number of cruise holidays scheduled over the two-week period.
Commenting on the findings, ABTA head of communications Victoria Bacon said "For those who don’t love sports or want to escape the crowds, going abroad will provide a welcome alternative.”
Are you tempted to book a cruise during the Olympics? Where would you like to go?
