I think now hopefully it will now be a level playing field and maybe just, maybe there will be price reductions from Southampton sailings due to competition, it can only be good for prospective cruisers.

Brilliant news. One in the eye for Southampton. We cruised from there a couple of years ago and the journey down was horrendous, never again. I will base my cruises now on where a ship from Liverpool is going. I was thinking of not cruising again because of the distance to ports and i am not keen on flying.
I think it will be very popular. Liverpool has a lot to offer now.
I think that it is logical that cruises starting from Liverpool to say Canaries and Med. destinations will be dearer due to the additional 1 day each way sailing difference to that of Southampton.
As a Southerner I think its brilliant forLiverpool but having visited the city and askedwhere their new terminal was I wondered why it cost so much. It looks like a pontoon attached to the Quay and as for the transport links to it they are quite poor. Ocean Countess with 800passengers I take it can be easily catered for but when three to four thousand passengers appear could they cope with all that baggage to be loaded and offloaded, I will watch in anticipation. Time will tell!!!
it is about time liverpool got the chance to be a main player again, in this day and age competition is in every type of industry and now it can give southamton a good run for their money. The hours and hours of travel to southamton are finally over and i am sure that.. cruise holidays will be used even more because of this decision
Poor transport links and costs of terminal ?
When you think of the millions spent on networks to Southampton and the complaints from people , we are in good company then . Not sure its true though , as a regular traveller into town .
The terminal will come good . Please watch in anticipation . Time will truly tell .
Firstly congratulations to Liverpool for getting the Turnaround Approval.
However I wonder which cruise lines will use it, the smaller ships like Fred Olsen, Saga, Discovery, Cruise & Maritime, Thomsons etc. All use the smaller ports such as Harwich, Tilbury, Dover, Newcastle, and I see Fred Olsen also have Falmouth listed, although no cruises from their listed at the moment, and now Liverpool. None of which, other than Thomsons, appeal to me personally.
In addition to the above at Harwich, my home port (20 minutes), we also had the likes of Celebrity Constellation, and RCI Jewel of the seas, offeriing turnaround cruise. Then after the port invested over a million £'s on a new, passenger boarding bridge to provide improved passenger access between the Cruise Terminal building, only for Celebrity to pull out, also Thomson's although they are back this year.
Now in addition to Liverpool having to return the 9 Million £'s, they will also have to invest, millions to bring the port up to date as a turn around port, by building the required customs, baggage handling and all the expensive paraphernalia needed for a full-blown terminal.
So after investing all this money, I wonder how long it will be, before or if ever we see the Larger Cruise lines Such as RCI, Celebrity, P&O, Cunard and Princess, using Liverpool as a turn around rather than a stop over.
How long before ships such as these will be starting and finishing their cruises at Liverpool.

good afternoon aloise
I find it strange that you find a mere 4 hour 200 mile journey 'horrendous'. (Ninety percent of the journey is on motorway.) I've done that journey many times and it's effortless.
What is your problem with Southampton? I think your comments are just juvenile.
cheers
Harvey
What posters need to realise when we are "bigging" the news of Liverpools turnaround terminal is not to takeover as No.1 but to offer an alternative . All of a sudden people are experts on road networks , baggage handling , cruise ship strategies for future cruises and any other criteria linked to making Liverpool an attraction to cruise companies . The people who are defending Southamptons cruise location will not be affected . We'll leave it you .
Joe Anderson has already spoken to cruise companies and based his commitment on this . Of course some are already committed till 2014 on their schedules but have shown they are interested in this news . If you dont show ambition it wont happen .
As for Delboys pics , great views . If any of those ships come to Liverpool time will tell . They have been there for the day not a turnround , but the passengers on them loved being in the city centre . Which is also important folks .
The UK seems to be more than capable of supporting several very large airports ( Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham etc ) so why not more than 1 large cruise terminal ?
The amount of cruise traffic is only going to expand ( like air traffic has been doing for years ) so the UK needs more than 1 major terminal.
So just what is Southampton's problem ? All their various authorities are currently doing is making a big song and dance like a spoilt child who now has to share his toys. They are not telling cruisers why they are so good, instead they are trying to find any legal reason they can to stop Liverpool taking some of their closely guarded business. Southampton seems very worried by this I'd say.
