This sort of thing is just plain selfish, why inconvenience others if things are not right for you? I know some say "things got on top of him etc" but when you read about train drivers end others who are involved with these people and have to live their lives with this on their mind, any sympathy you have gets dissolved.
It could be a case of the drink? But someone now has to clean his mess up, and i dont mean that literally by the way.
Don't be so selfish. This may inconvenience you in your life for half an hour but the relatives of people who take their own lives have to live with it for the rest of theirs. And don't be to smug as it can happen totally out of the blue so never take anything for granted.

This ship was chartered for an all gay cruise. I guess they didn't want to mix with heterosexual people? Could that be a case of discrimination against heterosexual people or does it only work the other way round? If he intended to kill himself he probably got his wish. As long as no one lost their lives trying to save him, then there was no harm done.

No discrimination - I am sure you could have joined the cruise if you wished. I doubt you would have to kiss the bosun's daughter to establish your sexual preferences.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Why do they say he was 'seen falling overboard' . Does anyone think you can "fall" over a balcony? I don't! AV.

Wouldn't want them to think I was that kind of girl. Would I ?

My reading of the report which is probably incomplete..

    Someone reported a man overboard,

They made a few anouncements and after checking CCTV reported it to the authorities.

Why did they not take the initial report more seriously and start a search?

It does seem an odd way of doing it. I would have thought that they would turn the ship around first. Did they suspect it to be a hoax report?

It's a very sad news item.

Sorry ..................... but i do take your point. but i cant change my mind. Anyone who wants to take their own life for whatever reason has no right to impose the result of their selfish actions on the rest of us. The many will suffer for the actions of one, is this fair? Is this a great way to treat your fellow human beings? If you really want to do it, and i cannot see any reason why it's "the only way", why not do it in a way that causes the many no pain at all?
Call me selfish if you wish, but i most certainly wont be doing anything similar.

Smug ................... no, realistic ............. yes. But why ask the many to be involved even as simple bystanders, even if you think "ir's all to much for me" etc. Sorry !!!!!!!

A cruise is a microcosm of life therefore there will be the events happening with guests on board. We were on a cruise in the South Pacific last year where a guest suffered a heart attack and drowned whilst on the cruise company's island, sailing delayed; these things happen.
