British cruise ship passenger 'seen falling overboard'

A British cruise ship passenger has fallen overboard in waters near Mexico, a travel company has said.

Royal Caribbean International cruise line said the 30-year-old man had been captured on closed-circuit camera footage falling over railings. It said a fellow passenger on the Allure of the Seas, believed to be the world's biggest cruise ship, had seen him fall.
A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said it was looking into the reports. A statement from Royal Caribbean said: "The ship made multiple public announcements and began a complete search of the ship, in efforts to locate the guest.

"When the guest did not respond to the pages and was not found onboard, the captain alerted the local authorities of the situation."A review of the ship's closed-circuit camera footage observed the 30-year-old British male guest going over the balcony railing."
The Mexican navy and coastguard are assisting in the search, the company said.
The ship, which can carry 5,400 passengers, left Fort Lauderdale in Florida on Sunday for a seven-night cruise to Cozumel in Mexico.

The coastguard later released the ship and it reached Cozumel about an hour later.
The Allure of the Seas has a park on board containing more than 12,000 live plants, a theatre, a casino and a nightclub.

Very sad report but I am a little bemused with it. The story describes the loss of the poor man and what was done and what is being done and then conclude with "The Allure of the Seas has a park on board containing more than 12,000 live plants, a theatre, a casino and a nightclub."

What has that to do with the price of cabbage?

Depending what deck his cabin was on, it's a very long way to the sea!

Any chance to get the sales pitch in!

This sort of thing is just plain selfish, why inconvenience others if things are not right for you? I know some say "things got on top of him etc" but when you read about train drivers end others who are involved with these people and have to live their lives with this on their mind, any sympathy you have gets dissolved.
It could be a case of the drink? But someone now has to clean his mess up, and i dont mean that literally by the way.

A little human compassion wouldn't go amiss, even if your wild assumption is proved correct.

I agree Max but compassion can wear a little thin if you happen to be a commuter stuck standing on a train in a queue for hours to get passed one of these incidents. They always picked Friday afternoons for maximum disruption I found as it happened to me several times. So can share AVB's sentiment that it was just plain selfish of them though in this case it could've been worse if he'd jumped in the Atrium the trauma for witnesses would've been far greater.

Wow ouch, that's possible one if the most selfish things I've seen I am sure at someone's most desperate time in thier life, all they are thinking about is how to screw up your day or a couple of hours. Just be grateful that neither you or your loved ones have obviously never felt that way.

Poor fellow, we were on the Century when a man took his own life by jumping into the sea, we turned and searched all to no avail. CG
