What has the sex of the M.D. got to do with it? The female M.D.! Would you have written the male M.D.? I don't think so.
The reason that I described the managing director of P&O was not sexist at all, its just that I could not remember her full name other than Carol.

The sex or self-esteem of heads of large organisations has never deterred me from communicating directly with them, and my list includes, senior members of HM Government and several Ministers of State, and I have to say that I have received far more courteous replies from those elevated personalities than the lack of acknowledgement by the person complained of, who would probably make a suitable candidate for TV's 'Who do you think you are'?

"Remember only one of the couple did not have the correct innoculation certificate - but both were penalised." How do you mean, Gordon? Are you suggesting that as one of them had the certificate the other one should have been let off without one? Or that one half of the couple might have gone alone but wasn't given the option?

I've looked, but can't see what you mean. Sorry, I'm not being difficult - I just can't see the answer.

I like a good squabble...but folks come-on, these are only individuals views. I still agree with the early comments that it is all in the T&C's and if you fail to read them then you fail in your duty of care to yourself. You cannot then start pointing the finger at others.

Gordon, most of us have been on the receiving end of poor customer services, many of us from a Cruise Line. Unfortunately these large organisations do become faceless and cases are often dealt with via procedures and not with any bit of descretion. Its not necessarily correct but its the way things are. You can always vote with your feet, many do.
I agree Vinny that we may have all been 'done' by customer relations in our time but not, for over £4000 quid.

Its interesting to discover how many 'Customer Relations Reps' or newly discovered 'TV Engineers' come from.

I recently had a 'freeview' television installed in one of the rooms by an 'engineer' who my son recognised as a former labourer in a vehicle breakers yard in Chester.

    Some metamorphosis eh ?

    Gordon

"Those that have eyes to see, let them SEE" (Bible)

If you can't see where I'm coming from then the explanation must be that you refuse to SEE where I'm coming from.

    Its called flexibility -v- intransigence

How do we know the facts?

We begin with a newspaper report. How did the reporter know about this case? I assume the aggrieved party contacted the newspaper and presented their side of the story. Probably the reporter contacted P&O, but apparently P&O prefer to deal with customers directly rather than through the Mid Devon Star.

So we get a one-sided view of the situation. Even so, hasn't anyone noticed that Mrs Painter contradicted herself?

"At no point did anyone tell us we needed a yellow fever certificate," is followed by, "The information we needed a yellow fever certificate was on page four of a 35-page document...". I suppose pages 5 - 35 also went unread.

Isn't this a case of listen to what you were taught in school ~ "Before you do anything read through the entire work sheet/ exam sheet twice"

Or was she hoping that ignorance was bliss

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

What is wrong with it? The guy is just trying to improve himself. You are beginning to sound like Sir Nicholas Winterton
