    Hiya Carol

The reasons(s) for my temporary absence from the forum are:
    a) My energy level got a bit depleted as a result of recent exchanges with Ms History Addict that resulted in making her 'stand in the corner' as admonishment and I decided to call it 'a draw.'
(I'm getting too old for this sort of thing anyway.)

After which I look forward to new challenges, controversies and irritating trite utterings of others and oh! - I will be taking a short break in a few months, cruising with the beloved P&O on their latest floating 'holiday camp,' (or block of flats) the AZURA, and of course will be extending my 'talents' into writing a review of the vessel and my experiences thereof, which hopefully, may make amends for the previous discourtesy of Carol Marlow (MD of P&O).

p.s, It was Taffs Day on Monday, (St David, patron of Wales) but I couldn't wear a Daffodil as they are late this year together with our, usually prolific, Snowdrops which are scattered around the family estate and especially those under the majestic horse-chestnut tree which was planted as a sapling by Mrs GRW's grandfather.GRW

I'm sure a leek would have sufficed in the absence of a daffodil Gordon. As for keeping your energy up, an occasional dollop of Lava Bread with the old Bacon and Eggs is recommended.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful time on Azura and trust you have no mis-preconceptions following your recent tiff with the lovely Ms Marlow.

Hello Denna from Leicester (Esther from Leicester has a better ring)

I have only recently caught up with your escalating 'notoriety' within the cruise forum and must admit that I rather dismissed your contributions as amounting to cat-fighting, possibly caused by a recurring 28 day period of depression or anxiety.

By the way, your aversion of attending football matches, by reason of the 'thugs' who frequent the game, is peevishly unfair as you tar every supporter with the same brush and even include law-abiding dad's, mum's and kid's in your intellectual? summary.

I also have to take you to task in describing someone else as being Victor Meldrew.

I am Victor Medrew (series 2) and probably am gifted with most of the attributes so described in your uppercase utterings in what was intended as a barbed reply to someone who had the temerity to disagree with you; OK so far in following my verbosity?

A word of advice from an old hand at controversy and winding-up others with a dash of dismissal, sarcasm, cynicism and an occasional putting-down of persistent provocative perpetrators.

What you need, to withstand often biased views of others, is to be endowed with a pair of that part of a man's anatomy denied to the female of the species who are endowed with a more attractive appearing equivalent.

This endowment, or whatever its female equivalent is, would be most useful when challenging a male, either verbally or physically, although I have to comment that a few 'meow's' and metaphorical 'scratches' have emanated from members of your own gender who disagree with you, so you score 100 for causing irritation.

The other piece of advice is 'quit while you're winning' or be prepared for a long slog - but then it could be that you started your 'campaign' impulsively or unintentionally and wish to quit - its your call and no-one would blame you - after all, we only know you as Denna and we are all 'ships that pass in the night.'

Conversely, if you enjoy what you are doing, do so by certainly emphasising your point in a constructive manner, and your reasons for doing so, but avoid vindictiveness and personal denegration or abuse of those who hold views contrary to yours.

Try keeping it interesting without over-reacting to others' response but at the same time, expect them, 'as you sow, so shall you reap.'

Well that's sorted that out, and I must expect an appropriate reply, but be warned, depending on the contents of a possible response will determine where the battle lines are drawn and the size of the artillery deployed plus the length of the battle until a victor is declared.

    Your fellow 'poster'
    Gordon (Rhys-Williams)

What a good reply Gordon. Denna is more than welcome. She has her own opinions, but what I cant understand is why she is deliberately rubbing up most of us on this site? We are a happy lot. We have our differences. But not to calling each other. No need. Come on Denna, Join us, be happy. (Will you?) Carol.

    Hi Richard

A rather sensitive mention of wearing Leeks for Dewi Sant's day as I am a dedicated, and frequent, leak specialist, being diabetic.

Your mention of Lava bread jogs my memory of attending a function at Swansea University, as part of my former County Councillor duties, which pleasant duty was referred to as 'a jolly.'

Interestingly enough, the evening dinner guests included the TV presenter John Humphreys, who was receiving an Honorary Doctorate and the guest of honour was Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

After the dinner, I was seated next to the Chairman of British Gas and his wife, we Councillors and minor Education Department officers, vacated to the bar and freely imbibed of the local brew until God knows what hour.

None of us were driving, being accommodated in the students' unoccupied quarters overnight.

The following morning, some of us feeling decidedly groggy, attended the College dining room for breakfast, consisting of the usual fry-up, we were also offered Lava bread (Swansea sea-weed) as a supplement.

At the sight of which, many blanched white, struggled to avoid throwing-up at the appearance of it, mumbled a polite refusal and passed swiftly by.

Although I had consumed my fair share of the amber nectar the previous night, I was still able to tackle the fry-up without difficulty.

But I often regret not having tasted the repulsive looking stuff especially as it is considered a gastronomic icon by my fellow celts of the southern tribe, not so in the more intelletual northern homeland of the (proper) Princes of Wales and birthplace (Anglesey) of the Tudors, Henry VIII's family, yes he is down to us.

i feel sure that we will enjoy the Baltic cruise on Azura despite having to travel 200+ miles to join her at Southampton only to cruise the same 200+ miles north to the Baltic.

I read an amusing, and critical, review of a recent passenger on P&O's Ventura which he described as 'Butins-on-Sea.' and vowing never to set foot on her ever again.
I disagreed with his comments, especially on the quality of catering, and his condemnation of the presence of unruly 'kids' which he should have expected since Ventura is a 'family ship,' and so is the Azura for that matter, but we were not troubled with unruly children on our 14 day Med cruise on Ventura lst year.

You know, you can't please some any of the time.

    Best wishes
    Gordon

    Yes Carol, my sentiments entirely.
