The second reason is, that we are in the season of Lent, and bearing in mind my previous ecclesiastical musical role within the Anglican Communion, I feel minded to modify my 'utterings'

p.s, It was Taffs Day on Monday, (St David, patron of Wales) but I couldn't wear a Daffodil as they are late this year together with our, usually prolific, Snowdrops which are scattered around the family estate and especially those under the majestic horse-chestnut tree which was planted as a sapling by Mrs GRW's grandfather.

Has anyone else experienced poor horticultural results after the hammering of winter?
Hi Gordon, greetings for this testing time for Christians, called Lent.I am glad to see that you have not taken the easy route for Lent, taken by so many,of giving up some trivial "material need or object of desire",and that you have gone down the route which I am sure ,is far more testing for you,and far more pleasing to God.You seem to be focusing on giving up on Pride,Arrogance, etc.
Micah6:8 God requires you to have Mercy. Some define this reference to Mercy.... as showing compassion, and having a kindly forebearance to others! These are both qualities which I am sure you have found being sorely tested on this forum sometimes!Question,..Are you sure that you have not been seduced from your aim of "staying offline" by the"flatterers" who love to read your posts??I am sure you will consider this question in the caring manner it is posed to you by a Christian brother.Stan
On a lighter note..we have about 50 groups of snowdrops in our garden,as we've been splitting and spreading them with a view to the garden becoming a"spring white carpet".You are right, everything is about 3 weeks late,we normally have Camelias out by now!Iremain Fraternally yours Stan.

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

    Hi Richard

i feel sure that we will enjoy the Baltic cruise on Azura despite having to travel 200+ miles to join her at Southampton only to cruise the same 200+ miles north to the Baltic.

I read an amusing, and critical, review of a recent passenger on P&O's Ventura which he described as 'Butins-on-Sea.' and vowing never to set foot on her ever again.
I disagreed with his comments, especially on the quality of catering, and his condemnation of the presence of unruly 'kids' which he should have expected since Ventura is a 'family ship,' and so is the Azura for that matter, but we were not troubled with unruly children on our 14 day Med cruise on Ventura lst year.

You know, you can't please some any of the time.

    Best wishes
    Gordon
Slightly off course Gordon. I'm sure after your journey south you will first sail East for the Dover Straits, having passed 'Chez Richard' within an hour of casting off. My mobile number is on it's way by 'private' message, as you qualify for a burst of light from the Solent shores to speed you on your journey.

On a serious note, methinks the Azura will not be as 'family friendly' as Ventura, no bad thing, if one reads between the lines. In the event you have not yet made your St Petersburg tour arrangements to date, do consider using one of the locally based companies. We visited with Arcadia last May and used Alla-tours. Outstanding service and maximum site coverage.

By the way, Lee's crocus beds have been in bloom some two weeks and my chives are 5 inches tall.

I like to read Gordon's posts they are always so full of content and information and always entertaining. being a fellow councillor although only town these days , I used to be a district councillor before Cornwall was pushed into being a Unitary council against the majority of councillors and residents. We are now in a dreadful state
none of the savings promised all went on redundancies and payoffs, we are the poorest county in England pay the highest on water bills yet have a chief executive earning £200.000 a year, and expenses accumulated of £10.000 in only nine months, now bearing in mind that Devon CC is the largest county their CEO 's salary is £150.000 and he has taken a 5% pay cut I get so upset when I see us going backwards, Sorry for this rant but Gordon reminded me when he mentioned councillor, I am also a fellow Celt but certainly no flatterer. As for Denna her opinions count, come on the sisterhood give her some support you may not agree but, hey that's life!!
Stan don't want to rub it in but my Camellia's are in full bloom as are the azalea's daffodils etc the potatoes and onions are also in Spring is here in Cornwall!

Hi Marie, Yes of course Denna is entitled to her view. What some of us are saying is that most of her posts are just negative responses, without saying anything constructive. She was also rather nasty to Neil, which is not acceptable.
As I write this, 'Sailing' by Rod Stewart is playing on Radio 2.

Hello Denna from Leicester (Esther from Leicester has a better ring)

I have only recently caught up with your escalating 'notoriety' within the cruise forum and must admit that I rather dismissed your contributions as amounting to cat-fighting, possibly caused by a recurring 28 day period of depression or anxiety.

By the way, your aversion of attending football matches, by reason of the 'thugs' who frequent the game, is peevishly unfair as you tar every supporter with the same brush and even include law-abiding dad's, mum's and kid's in your intellectual? summary.

I also have to take you to task in describing someone else as being Victor Meldrew.

I am Victor Medrew (series 2) and probably am gifted with most of the attributes so described in your uppercase utterings in what was intended as a barbed reply to someone who had the temerity to disagree with you; OK so far in following my verbosity?

A word of advice from an old hand at controversy and winding-up others with a dash of dismissal, sarcasm, cynicism and an occasional putting-down of persistent provocative perpetrators.

What you need, to withstand often biased views of others, is to be endowed with a pair of that part of a man's anatomy denied to the female of the species who are endowed with a more attractive appearing equivalent.

This endowment, or whatever its female equivalent is, would be most useful when challenging a male, either verbally or physically, although I have to comment that a few 'meow's' and metaphorical 'scratches' have emanated from members of your own gender who disagree with you, so you score 100 for causing irritation.

The other piece of advice is 'quit while you're winning' or be prepared for a long slog - but then it could be that you started your 'campaign' impulsively or unintentionally and wish to quit - its your call and no-one would blame you - after all, we only know you as Denna and we are all 'ships that pass in the night.'

Conversely, if you enjoy what you are doing, do so by certainly emphasising your point in a constructive manner, and your reasons for doing so, but avoid vindictiveness and personal denegration or abuse of those who hold views contrary to yours.

Try keeping it interesting without over-reacting to others' response but at the same time, expect them, 'as you sow, so shall you reap.'

Well that's sorted that out, and I must expect an appropriate reply, but be warned, depending on the contents of a possible response will determine where the battle lines are drawn and the size of the artillery deployed plus the length of the battle until a victor is declared.

    Your fellow 'poster'
    Gordon (Rhys-Williams)
Hi Gordon so you think that i am being sarcastic and vindictive after reading your comments i must say that i find your message equally as bad taking it out on my name for one that is my real name and what's the esther from leicester supposed to mean, also were you refering the 28 day depression down to womens problems which again is not a nice thing to say either as i am much older than you imagine, and the victor meldrew business how do you know that wasn't a joke, it wasn't aimed at you why are you getting involved i don't wish to make any enemies on this site but neil thinks he's clever and gets away with lots of sarcasm and make a lot of irritating comments, yes a debate i agree is for everyone to make their own mind up about the topic and discuss with others, sometimes i can be a little harsh and don't beat about the bush with words but i am agentle soul at heart and would if i could help whoever is in need but unfortunaltely the world is in such a state of dis repair we can't change that like neil wants too. these poor people i know don't earn that much but if we go back to what this argument started with was the tipping on cruise ships, we all have different opinions and i thank carol for asking me to join in and be happy she's got the better attitude than you all, you all dig in and have a go but if you would listen to yourselves for a change. maybe your better with words than myself but it doesn't alter what you mean in your messages. In fact your are threatening in a lot of your message to me.
