I feel sympathy for you not having your yellow fever jab. But remember there are a lot of viruses about.Example Norovirus!!! I have on a few cruises made a statement to a lot of gents who for some reason do not believe that washing there hands after using the toilet is not the seemly thing to do.I have even been in an argument with a gent who felt I was being intrusive into his cleanliness habits.i.e He had came out of of a toilet and straight into the piano bar without washing his hands.

Yes, what's up with THAT?!

The article says that they were refused boarding
because Mr Painter didn't have the required certification.
This implies that Mrs Painter did.

Yes, I noticed that myself, when first reading about this
and wondered how come she got the right jab, but he didn't?
Don't they communicate?
Surely they would have gone and got the jab together? You'd think?
What's going on between them(or not!) as a married couple?
Very odd..

Any holiday, let alone a dream holiday needs to be read through. I read every detail. Check if any vaccinations are needed. There is a wealth of info out there. I do feel sorry for them. But it should be check, check, check before you go. Carol.

I feel sorry for them too in a way. Of course the responsibility is theirs but if they are following this thread they must wish they had never started it !
Could be a timely warning before embarking on the rest of their married life. Communicate , communicate communicate. Not to be confused with dominate by the way !

We are off to Egypt shortly and I always ring our practise nurse at our surgery to check what innoculations are required and also to ensure our Tetanus is upto date. Indeed we are off for our innoculations this week.
Experience has taught us to check, check and check. Visa, passports and even more important declaring all on travel insurance.
This couple appear less experienced than many of us and they have my sympathy but it is a lesson hard learned.

We can all be clever after the event, however I would think it prudent for the cruise/booking agent to clearly indicate the medical requirements on a (make sure),check list.

Cruise lines should take some responsibility
We booked a last minute cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore via Vietnam and Cambodia. I read the small print and checked with RCI if we could get visas on board, as posted in discussion forums. RCI told us we couldn't so we had to cancel. A week later I received an email from RCI saying we could get them in board, too late!

Princess warning - AT THE TREBLE!!!!!
[
Darren and Rita Painter, from Bradninch, told the Mid Devon Star they were left devastated when they were unable to embark on their Caribbean and Amazon cruise because Mr Painter had not had his yellow fever jab.
Mrs Painter told the news provider: "At no point did anyone tell us we needed a yellow fever certificate. If they had, of course we'd have done so."
According to the tour operator, the information detailing the requirement is clearly listed in the brochure.
So this was a P & O cruise? I did not know they were going down the Amazon. She definitely can't mean Princess or does she - the Royal does not become P & O for above 12 months!
I leave 2 weeks on Friday for a Royal Princess cruise to the Caribbean and Amazon. Immediately after booking, the confirmation included a sheet that said you MUST have a yellow fever vaccination. That was 12 months ago. Again after 6 months another sheet detailing just where the injection was needed for and a warning there and then that it MUST be obtained BEFORE you were allowed on the ship, Then, just 10 days ago, another communication in big red letters, informing me that I would not be allowed on the ship unless I had the certificate. I cannot believe that they were not told. Even when visiting Zanzibar on another smaller cruise line (another yelllow fever port), we were not allowed on the ship unless we had had the injection. It's common sense. One person not protected can put the whole ship in danger.

Last minute bookings and Visa is a tricky one as to who is responsible ( basically the passenger) BUT the cruise lines should be consistent in their responses as to options.
Back to innoculations - - Ones own responsiility - check with the nurse at the local surgery at least 6-8 weeks before travel , particularly for exotic jabs like yellow fever. The standard polio/tetanus/hepatitis and whatever are usually free but still mustt be done ( ideally ) 2 weeks before travel.

Yellow Fever Jabs
Sometimes there is so much to take in when booking a holiday, i think it should be made clearer with a seperate booklet about diseases and injections so we know where we are when we travel to different destinations. But i always check with my doctor before i travel and see if i need any boosters, i travellled caribbean last December with Princess and i checked with the nurse through all the islands we were visiting. Give them a refund its there honeymoon after all. Denna.

Sorry I don't agree, they should have checked with their practise nurse and read the information. Weddings and honeymoons don't happen within days they have probably had months to sort out everything. Maybe it was a case of "I have to pay for that one, I don't really need it."
