Hi JC
Glad to see diplomatic relations restored between us and I have posted a similar apology to Denna, although she continues to be a little 'undiplomatic' in her 'compositions.'
On the suggestion that I should write a piece extolling the virtues of Womanhood.
I rather expect that any comments voiced by me, extolling their virtues, would be met with cries of 'two-faced' or insincerity seeing as I have been variously described as a 'woman-hater' and having other anti-women views, as if I could, bearing in mind my missus holding views stronger than Mrs Pankhurst did on the subject of women's liberation.
I still can't convince her the reasons for her retirement pension being less than mine - I've given up trying.
There already exists a religious festival in praise of womanhood which celebrates the 'annunciation of the blessed virgin Mary, or Mothers' day, commonly described as Mothering Sunday.
The festival, to many, has lost its meaning and is now only a reason for sending gifts of cards, flowers and boxes of chocs.
I must be careful here as, lower down page 30, one guy whinges on about the 'thread' having lost its original theme of what he claims was 'the refusal of P&O to allow a couple to board who didn't have yellow fever certificates' then goes on to complain of the introduction of religion and other diverse subjects into the thread etc etc.
I need to correct him that refusal to board was not the real argument, but the suggestion that the couple at fault should or should not receive some form of compensation for their 'blown' four thousand quid as a result of their ineptitude as suggested by many.
One genuine story, that supports the courage, fortitude and dogged perseverance of women (apart from Mrs GRW of course) is about a former political colleague and fellow county councillor of mine with, appropriately enough, a high profile Liverpool connection.
For obvious reasons of privacy and security, I am not at liberty to name her except to say that she was an educated lady of impressive build and commanding height of around 6' - you can imagine how diminutive I appeared at 5'6" standing beside her.
I could not understand why she chose to be Labour when everything about her shouted Tory.
Despite her commanding stature, she was most gentle, polite and friendly and, for some reason, we got on 'a bomb.'
After a while her former profession 'came to light' which was that of 'a very senior rank' in the Merseyside Police Authority who she claimed had 'passed her over' for promotion to the ultimate uniformed rank, (no, not chief constable, but a notch below) because of what she insisted was sexual discrimination.
They stood firm that this was not the case - she refused to accept it and took them to the Tribunal, who upheld her claim and awarded her many thousands of pounds compensation.
She is no longer a police officer, joined local politics, was elected an assembly member in the Welsh Assembly Government, quit that, changed political party to Tory and was re-elected to the local County Council on which we both had previously served.
She still commands my respect.
How's that for a morale-booster for your good lady wife, the lady members of the cruise forum and women in general, and one in the eye for those accusing me of being a woman-hater.
Fraternal Felicitations to both of you
Gordon
