"I have to admit, though, that I enjoyed the excitement of not knowing..... Neil"
This depends on your personality, doesn't it - whether the prolonged adrenalin rush is exhilarating or brings on a nervous breakdown! We had a double experience of this during the prospect of the first BA strike (the one which didn't happen) in February. We were booked with BA independently to join a cruise in Barbados with very little time between the arrival time of the flight and the sailing time of the ship. BA then announced that the strike wouldn't be happening (at that time, anyway) only for the snow to cover the country and close half the airports. We decided not risk travelling from Wales to Gatwick on the same day as the flight out, managed with some difficulty to drive to and find a small hotel in the Gatwick area the night before - and then waited to see whether (a) the runway was open that morning and (b) BA would have its plane in the right place at the right time and take off on time. In the event it all went extraordinarily smoothly, and we caught our ship with a couple of hours to spare, but the anticipation, shall we say, was interesting! On the flight back the pilot announced that more snow was forecast, but he hoped we would arrive before the runway was closed again - which we did.
