Congratulations being the first Female Master on P&O. I wonder which company she served her apprenticeship with ? As a Master Mariner myself I wish her every success and I am sure she will be given every support by her officers.

At least as a woman she'll be able to park the ship whilst scratching her head, unlike most men who can't walk and chew gum at one and the same time...

    Hi,

Unfortunately due to a poor experience on 'Island Escape' it has put my wife off cruising so at present we are just going to lie on Sunny beaches.

I do however keep reading the interesting and varied articles and topics, keep up the good work.

What happened, Supermac? Was it the overall poor quality of the ship/cruise, or something specific?

Hello? ..easy for you multi-tasking girls to say
but you should try walking, chewing gum and thinking -all at the same time!

    It's not easy you know...

Tell her to stop being silly!

So you cruised on a ship with a bad reputation: it's no wonder she's displeased.
But she has to dust herself off, and book something like Princess or P & O
to see what real cruising is like.
    ;)

Congratulations Sarah. At last the cruise ships are getting into the 21st centery. We have female airline pilots now. When I was in the RNXS back in the 1980's, one of our female crew worked up to master and often took charge of the ship ( and she could park better than some of the men). I believe she was the first and only female to be master at the time.
