Shearings takes the plunge with first cruise charter

Shearings don't just do coach holidays, you know... ;)

They plan to charter All Leisure Holidays' mv Discovery for three cruises next year.

Those interested will have the choice of three ex-UK itineraries: British Isles, Baltic or Norwegian Fjords.

Shearings chief executive Denis Wormwell said: “Discovery is a perfect fit for our customers, offering a smaller, more intimate experience yet with the amenities one expects from a classic cruise liner.

“By taking an exclusive charter we can tailor the packages and on-board amenities to suit the demands of our customers, introducing new customers to sea cruising and expanding our presence in the cruise sector.”

All Leisure chairman Roger Allard added: “The demand for no-fly cruises has grown considerably and after chartering these three cruises to Shearings, our no-fly cruise capacity on Discovery for summer 2011 will have increased by some 10% year-on-year.

“Our fleet of smaller, more intimate ships are ideal for these types of charter arrangements and we are excited that two strong British holiday brands such as Voyages of Discovery and Shearings will be working together in such close collaboration.”

Has anyone experienced ms Discovery? What is she like?

I did a voyages of Discovery cruise on her and had an excellent time. Food was good, cabins were a good size but I was onboard for the lectures and ports of call.

A nice ship that will be suited to the market that Shearings are renown for...........

Have not experienced there ships but last year enjoyed a great coach holiday with them to the Ring of Kerry in Ireland and are going with them again this year to Fort William and the Isle of Sky in Scotland.

I am glad that I just read Delboy's response because I am unsure what the previous person meant by Shearings usual type of person. Having never travelled with Shearings before I just wonder what is meant by that statement. Going on MV Discovery with Shearings on 20th August 2011 and crossing all fingers, toes and eyes.

    Hi Delboy,
Thank you so much. She looks beautiful to me. Very reassuring. I will have an amazing time, just so excited.

Were you going somewhere when you took this pic or do you live near Harwich?

Hi Angela, Sorry I did not reply to your question a few weeks back (was having problems with computer and lost the thread).I have not yet travelled alone since my husband died. Luckily I have a large family so can always coerce someone to come along.

You may remember Discovery was our first experience of cruising in 06. I have done many Shearings' holidays, including a Rhine cruise. They were always good value and very enjoyable. If they are tailoring the cruise to meet their requirements then you should have a good experience. Shearings and Discovery sound like a good conbination. Let us know how you get on. They tend to attract singles and couples over 40 who like to share their holiday experience with their fellow travellers. I did not see this cruise advertised. I assume they are arranging transport to the port which would be an attraction to me.

I never heard of Shearing until now. So I had a gander at their website and they have some amazing deals .

Are their trips focussed more towards older folk?

They also have very cheap 7 night trips for £199 but you don't know where you are going.

Has any one ever taken this mystery tours?

Or would you consider doing one?

Knowing my luck, I would fly to London to catch the trip to find it was 7 night break in Limeirck!
