    Travelling

    :D.
We have been on many cruises other than flying and the whole experience of arriiving and processing without flying is in our view far more civilised. If you are delayed driving at least it is only yourselves you have to put up with. You are also treated like a human at the cruise terminal and their operation is far smoother and with less hassel than at airports.Driving to the port or even travelling by train is infinately more endurable than putting up with the totally uncivilised nature of the airline industry these days.
Flying is a necessary evil to achieve, hopefully,a pleasurable experienced and one only to be considered as a last resort.(Unles you have the money to make it otherwise)[/QUOTE]

HAVING TO WAIT UNTIL JUNE OR JULY TO BOOK THE FLIGHTS TO SOUTHAPTOM FOR NOVEMBER WHICH I DONT MIND AS LONG THERE IS FLYING THEEE WE CAN GET THERE 2 DAYS BEFORE JUST IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER ETC

We always go to Southampton by car from Chester on a good day it takes about 3 1/2 hours with no stopping.
On some cruises we will go the day before and stop somewhere on the way down this extends the holiday by a day or two if we do the same on the return
The people who complain over the cost of getting to southampton should not be going on cruises if they thing the cost of travelling is to much

    Emlyn
I'm not complaining about the cost of getting to Southamptn just the time. DH was not able to drive for medical reasons last year so we had to go by coach. 10 hrs, it was horrendous. Couldn't chance the train as it had to many changes. (he had a prostate op a couple of months before. )

My God the QE2 coming to Liverpool, what will all you Southerners think, Well it is coming to the place that this fine ship should be in, The Capital Of Culture..
GET OVER YOURSELF! If you want a cruise line to call up North why dont you create a petition for one. If you think your petty prejudices matter down south or anywhere else, you are wrong. It is not the southerner's fault there is a lack of major cruise terminals in the north. I am sick to death of this north south divide getting personal, I live in London and we have hundreds of people from up north and all over the world working and living here and for the most part we all get on very well, why do you hold this prejudice for the southener? In our road in the dreaded south we have people from wales, sunderland, newcastle, india, poland, ireland and so on, what is your problem with us southerners do you think our welsh residents all choose to be here just to work, you are very wrong. Unles you can keep the debate impersonable and on the subject ie ships companies not having/not wanting a place to berth in the north you opinion is not valid, interesting or to the point.

It's not the Northerners that are making the fuss. Have you lost the thread here, or what. We have a cruise terminal. Southampton object to the terminal being used for cruise departures, and it being used to it's full potential. People from the north, who would prefer to sail from Liverpool, are reacting to these petty objections, from southerners. It's the Southampton group that has whinged about the Liverpool terminal. The fact that you have a multi national community, like the rest of the country , is not valid, interesting or to the point. Why do you mention it ?
Let Liverpool get on with it's business.
All this fuss, because one northern city was given a £19 million pound grant.
When has the south ever lost out to the north when tax payers money was being dished out.!
I would support paying this grant back, out of my council tax, just to stop the moaning from certain quarters.
This is just a private enterprise, trying to fend off competition, by using any means neccessary. (mostly whinging). Really is pathetic.
Oh, and it doesn't bother me having to drive to the south, either the cost or the time . Only someone of limited mental capacity, would make an excuse for driving 250 miles, in preference to 25 miles. People argue that you lose holiday time, but if you are on the ship earlier, it all balances out.
Quite happy to see Emlyn driving down to Southampton, as he obviously enjoys it. It is also apparent from his postings (which he has now removed) that he has a problem with Liverpool. Using this argument, to have a stab at Liverpool, is really lame and typical of people from his area.
I'm not a bit paranoid, and Liverpool is far, far, from perfect. That is not the issue here, and i object to bigots, wherever i find them .
    Live, and let live.

I have nothing against Liverpool If there was a cruise terminal there I would use it on certain cruises. But if I was going to the baltic or Norway then mybe Southampton would be better

I always chuckle at these threads, some from the South seem to think we have a right to ALL the ships, some from the North convinced it is all a fiendish plot against the North. Personally I don't care where I leave from, don't care what history or places to see are there....not interested in the slightest....get there, get on ship, have drink, have lunch, have drink....sail away.....I mean who gives a toss about Gatwick, Heathrow or any other departure point? Convenient is the thing.

Oh Marlin - I wish you were cruising same time as us. We are both fed up with driving now we have reached a certain age. You could have driven us to S.ampton as you live down the road from us, instead we are catching the coach. ;)

Simmer down southern cousin, even south-eastern cousin.

The reason that you have such a muti-national and multi-racial mix down there in 'The Smoke,' is probably because there isn't enough work available in their own homeland or residential area of the UK.

Vote for whoever has the best policy on immigration control.
As for the 'foreign' UK immigrants, put 'em on a ship to Oz, as was the custom in olden times.

North-South, Eastern-Western is NOT always about people living there, its mostly about the ethos of concentrating most areas of control, such as government and national policy, in south eastern conurbations yes, even in Wales.

The tenor of your 'composition' reveals how sensitive and personal a subject this is with you, but remember, you are supported by the 'top dogs' while we are the traditional 'under dogs.'

Is that any nearer the point which you prefer that we all acquiesce to?

    Keep smiling
    Gordon
