    Cruises for the Disabled

Another website I run for the local Stroke Recovery club received an interesting email re a cruise ship for the diabled/carers/familities. The person named in the email is Kevin Drinkall which worried me but there is a webite which anchorcruiseability and another
view-user-profile | members-directory - Social Enterprise Yorkshire & Humber Has anyone any knowledge of this group, there appears there could be a link via the Leonard Cheshire Homes but very tentative. The ship looks as though it was called the Explorer. The info decribes a specially adapted ship for up to 600 passengers and that there will be cruises this summer. Over to anyone out in cyber space !!

    Hello Bill,

I clicked on your first link & thought the web site looked a bit amateurish? But, maybe they are looking to get funds to run this through the other links on there, if there is enough interest to make it viable?

    Just a thought!

    Regards, Lizzie.

I agree a bit amateurish website but yes it could be funds are the problem a professional website doesn't come cheap. I will follow the item up and put more on this site hopefully early next week.

    More information on this project:

DESCRIPTION OF C.I.C COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY
    ANCHOR CRUISEABILTY U.K.

After being taken ill some 12 years ago and becoming disabled myself I have not been able to find employment in my profession.
All my working life has been around ships and the sea. I have worked my way up from deckhand learner to trawler Skipper and have also spent quite a number of years in the Merchant Navy and the oil support ships.
Helping everyone to enjoy life at sea is the goal of a recently formed C.I.C (Community Interest Company). ANCHOR CRUISEABILITY U.K., born from the realisation that few if any vessels available can provide fully accessible cruise/respite care holidays around the UK and Western Europe for people with a disability or impairment so newly formed C.I.C ANCHOR CRUISEABILITY U.K. decided to build their own.

Plans are already well advanced to purchase a vessel and have her converted to the highest level required for the disabled. We would hope to accommodate 660+passengers in various cabins and to provide a truly accessible living and recreational accommodation for people with a disability and their Carers/families or friends. With completion being scheduled for the summer season. The ship will be able to provide a program of scheduled cruises, custom designed cruises for larger groups on a purpose built ship.

This will include disabled members. The vessel will provide excellent training opportunities and will also be available for corporate hire and no one will be excluded with our whole ethos set in social inclusion. We hope to provide you with regular progress reports, including details of how you can become some of the first to benefit from the project.

The trips fore mentioned will last for 7 days and we hope to supply you with a great holiday and to feel empowered to go forward with your lives and achieve your goals set by you for you.

We as a C.I.C have set about this because as a disabled sea captain I have found it impossible to find a cruise that would give me the help I required whilst I was at sea. Since setting off on this quest to do something to aid the disabled, go to sea like any other none disabled person and always being pro-equality, I have had a great response from various disabled groups who have all given our company their full backing as this venture is unique in the UK and Europe.

The said cruises for the disabled/carers/family and friends will take place all year round with our summer period between March to October.

To finish I hope I have been able to give you a brief insight as to what we are trying to achieve. If you feel you would like to know more details please feel free to contact us by you’re favourite method. My contact details are as follows.

    Kind regards
    Kevin Drinkall founder and director,

Have just spoke with Kevin this morning [11thMarch] and it is now thought the cruises will not start until early 2011. P&O Cruise Ship Sun Princess Postcards - Spirit of London - Sun Princess - StarShip Majestic - Southern Cross - Flamenco - New Flamenco will give you some of the background on the ship they are hoping to finance currently tied up in Singapore. The ship's last use was as a casino. Current website as Sam says limited funds so not professional but their for information http://www.anchorcruiseability.com/
