I have literally just been engaged for 24 hours (and now nursing a rotten cold! Sniff! Cough! Splutter!)
I would be grateful for any advice/tips or a brief run down of how to plan a cruise wedding as we are leaning more towards that than a UK wedding which would have us paying it off for the next TEN years!!
We are not sure whether this is what we will do (depends on my parents being able to attend) but we are lookind at March 2010 (we already have a cruise booked on Sea Princess in the Caribbean) or it could be April 2011 on board Caribbean Princess.
Some questions though:
1. Is it possible to amend our booking saying we now want a wedding package 14 weeks before going?
2.To get married byt rhe captain does it have to be a 'sea day'?
3. If 'yes' to question 2, is it possible to marry the day after I arrive on ship (this is our first of two sea days)?
The reason for question 3 is that a colleague will be on the ship but her 2nd week is our 1st, so therefore wouldn't be there for the 2nd 'day at sea'.
All advice, tips know-hows most welcome!!! :D
Yes, congratulations. I think Sea Princess is lovely, and we saw several weddings when we were on her.
As I've tried to say on the Answers page, they were held in the library, with big archways of flowers.
How exciting!- Jo.
We are getting married in December when on the NCL Pearl but are not getting married on the ship. We have heard lot of issues with TWE who do the planning.
So we've gone for a wedding at one of the cruise destinations - St Thomas. The planner and package including wedding, music photos etc is a lot less money than here and we have a select group of 5 with us
We get to plan and do what we want without any interference and will then have an evening reception when we get back home for the family who only turn up to weddings and funerals and don't see us the rest of the year
And we're pleased to have this group of friends with us, we sail with them every year
We are just booking our wedding at sea which will be incredible value compared to the stay at home option.... However... a word of warning...
It's incredibly difficult and complicated as every cruise line will advertise their wedding packages but after many months of constant questioning and dead ends the true options are much more limited than they first appear. For UK residents looking for a European cruise there is P&O or Princess. Something to do with the ships being registered from British territories gives them the option to provide legal weddings at sea. PLEASE, PLEASE... do NOT be fooled by other cruise lines who have constantly let me down and know nothing of their own company policy. Royal Caribbean in particular were my first choice and very keen to take my money but the ceremony would have been "symbolic only " and we would have handed them thousands to have returned home unmarried.
And this is exactly why we are getting married in the port rather than on the ship. We booked the cruise before deciding to get married and were already booked on a non UK registered ship.
Although there is nothing stopping us having a great reception on board.
Good luck with the planning redline

Thanks Jan,
Take a look at my question in weddings section regarding photography costs and see if you can advise or shed light
This(above) was exactly what we witnessed at Antigua about 2 yrs. ago.
We on OV2 saw this(below) as the bridal party came ashore...
and then later that day, the reception was held on Adventure of the Seas,
tied up alongside us at the Antigua dock!
They were married under the Antigua jurisdiction,
and held their bang-up reception back on board later in the afternoon!
Same thing happens all the time, right here in Barbados, and also in popular ports of call like St.Lucia
where there are local outfits geared up to handle your every wedding eventuality
right down to the sand between your toes, while you take your vows!
SO many ppl get 'hooked', right on the beach, barefoot.
