    Single Cruising

My wife has decided that she does not want to go on any further cruises.

As such I am left in the position that if I want to go I need to go alone and have made some initial enquires as to cost of single cruising without any success to date.

Can anyone help with information as to which Companies carry single cruisers, any additional charges etc.

    Hi Supermac,

I am in a similar position, not that partner does not want to but more that my desire to cruise is more and I have more flexibility! There is whole sub-forum dedicated to discussing this so could be worth taking a browse through there to gleam some answers:

I certainly have posted quite a few articles and comments in there!

I'm showing my age again but I remember when my boyfriend and I went on holiday to Spain (no sharing your room then if you weren't married) we had to share a room with total strangers. He shared with the brother of a girl I shared with and the boyfriend of another girl in my room. They were all lovely, we got on really well. I had forgotten about this and your post reminded me what we had to do back then. It certainly saved us a lot of cash.

Might be worth setting up a group of people who want to cruise and just share the cost if a cabin, (nothing more) but don't have partners. You could could join and chat online with other like minded cruisers. Obviously you would want to meet up beforehand. Maybe between the group they could choose a hotel or somewhere to meet up and book a weekend somewhere for a decent number of people to meet up so you can find out whether there's anyone you could share with. Not sure how feasible this is given our paranoia with online chat and all the raving looneys around. Only kidding!

Another option could be to ask local cruise/travel agents whether they could organise something for existing customers. Might be worth asking them.

I know sharing could be problematic but you don't have to spend much time with each other if you don't want to, just agree some cabin rules.

QM2 and Azura come to mind as they have single cabins but best ask a cruise agent or two for any others. The single cabins go first !! The alternative is to ask for a like minded fellow who might share with you, through this forum. I am dying to know though, why your wife has decided against cruising. Is she fed up with dressing up? Walking too far in impersonal large ships? Same old entertainment? Please stop me speculating!!!! Why?

Hope you give your wife the same amount to spend on herself as you are spending cruising! Why are you married?

I don't believe there are any single cabins on Queen Mary 2. There were on the QE2. I paid the full single supplement on QM2 last year.......

I so agree with you about the cost for single travellers. I have been holidaying solo for 10 years now and done three cruises on my own. Loved every minute but have had to deny myself the pleasure of certain places because of the cost. November 2011 I am hoping to go on Thomson's Red Sea Magic and mentioned it to a friend, who promptly said she would like to join me, I thought my first reaction would be, great! it will cost me less but, no, I realised that I would have to share a cabin. The only other downside is that I fancied the SMALL ship that only has 59 passengers but she is worried about being seasick. I'll still enjoy though. Thanks for the web address for the singles

Azura (P&O) and Fred Olsen have single cabins, but they are almost as expensive as booking a twin for sole occupancy. Cunard charge 75% single supplement. P&O varies between 30% - 90% depending on itinerary and ship. Princess charge 50%. Upmarket cruise lines like Crystal charge 25%. You could wait for special offers to come up. Cunard have them occasionally, as do FO. It is a pet bleat of mine. RCCI charge 100% which I think is ridiculous.
