Post Wildlife Wow! Fifty Whales Bewitch Bergen

An estimated fifty wales were watched by delighted onlookers in Bergen yesterday.

Both locals and cruise ship passengers marvelled at the school of pilot whales which swam into the fjord and almost into the city.

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth, Costa Deliziosa and Saga Ruby were among the ships in port.

One Bergen resident told a local news outlet she had never seen anything like it in all the 40 years she had lived overlooking the fjord.

Another onlooker said "They were swimming so closely to land we could hear them breathing, and for the lucky ones having a boat it was an experience of a lifetime."

Are you a wildlife spotter at sea? Do you feel lost without your binoculars or camera zoom? What have you seen, and where? Please share!

Wow that must have been tremendous, unfortunately nothing like that happened when we were in Bergen.
Don't think I have ever captured a shot of any wildlife at sea, have seen a few dolphins, unfortunately when I was inside the ship looking out through the buffet area windows.

What an experience for the residents and cruisers! We watched a large number of beluga whales travel along the fjord off Ny Alesund in Svalbard. I thought they were very rare and apparently they are, but the majority of the population live around Svalbard. We went whale watching from Iceland last year and watched a minke for nearly an hour (or perhaps it was watching us!) The bonus was, as we were heading towards Torshaven a huge whale, (sorry not good on identfication, might have been sperm whale) breeched right out of the water at the side of the ship, several times. It was the most amazing tthing I've ever seen. Judith

Oh my goodness...what a fantastic sight they must have been! We were in Bergen about 2 weeks ago and we didn't see a sausage! haha

We did see pilot whales (from way off in the distance) when we cruised down to the Canaries in March though and a playful pod of dolphins messing about in the middle of the English Channel.

Not going with Celebrity, but off soon & I so hope they hang around!!

We were amazed to see a pair of sharks on our cruise in May, I was sat on a low deck using the Internet, glanced out of the window & could not believe my eyes! Fortunately my Husband and another couple also saw them - amazing!
