Which was your favourite town out of Eze and St. Paul De Vence? How do you get to this towns from Cannes? Is it possible without a car?

Once we were back on the ship
we could see the train running up and down the coast at regular time intervals
just as we'd been told about, when we were ashore at Cannes.
And this was on a Sunday.
I'm fairly sure we were told the train runs up and down the coast to Monte Carlo
and presumably the other way as well?

Hi, Sorry, been away for a couple of weeks. My favourite is St Paul de Vence, I really love the place and could go back time and time again! The galleries are just brilliant, the artwork and sculptures just superb. Then there are the gardens, the views...........
As Aplmac says (above) the coastal train is one option you can take it to Cagnes Sur Mer and then get Bus no 400 directly to St Paul de Vence. The only problem with this option is that the bus might be full by the time it gets to Cagnes. If it is in the spring/summer seasons.
An alternative is to take the train all the way to Nice and then go to the main bus station where the 400 leaves from. Far easier to get on the bus from here!
Another alternative, is to take the bus from Cannes to Nice, which will go directly to the bus station and change there. But it does depend on the time of year in spring/summer the coastal roads are mega busy!
Allow far more time than you think you need! Especially to get back.
Regards, Lizzie.
Thanks Lizzie for your response.
Approximately how far is it on the train from Cannes to Nice? I have been there a long time ago but I can't remember what the distances are. We will be there in mid September so the peak summer season will be over and it may not be quite as busy. I think your suggestion of the train to Nice then the bus may be the best option. There are tours that you can do from the ship but they are really expensive.
Hello Gracie,
The train should take about 40 mins, the railway station is on the Rue Jean Jaures in Cannes.
The roads could still be busy in September, but nowhere near as bad as August, when the Coast Road is a nightmare!
The first time we went to St Paul de Vence, we took a ships tour, then when we got there, spoke to the tour guide ( lollipop person) and said we would do our own thing! Much better as we did not have to follow the 'crocodile' line, but we really didn't have long enough there!
Make sure you get the bus to St Paul de Vence, not Vence, they are two separate villages. Although Vence is also said to be attractive.
Also allow plenty of time to get the bus/train back. The 400 gets busy! But unless things have changed, the bus will only cost you 1 euro each way!
When we were there last, we went from Nice to Menton for a euro each - amazing! But that was on a land based holiday, not a cruise!
Regards, Lizzie.
Hi there
We returned from Ventura cruise in April which took in Cannes. Had a wonderful cruise but did want to warn people about a bad experience in Cannes, just so people use caution. With two small children in tow we decided just to visit the beach and have a wander round town. Our trip was cut short following a visit to the church at the top of the hill. My 4 year old son asked could he look through the binoculars to get a view of the town. I popped a euro in the slot and my son duly tried to look through but declared he couldn't see anything. I then had a look and they were obscured so decided they obviously weren't working.
A few moments later my son was screaming hysterically and saying his eyes were burning. This caused quite a commotion and several (very kind people) came over to check all was ok. A moment or two later I started to get the burning sensation and was having blurry vision (probably from rubbing the contact lenses in my eye). Several passers by (from our cruise) provided water and were rinsing out my son and my eyes. The immediate pain went on for about 10 mins but the frightening thing was that we don't know what someone had put on the binoculars to cause this. Within about half an hour the pain had subsided but we had sore eyes for about 24 hours. I hope I never have to see my son in that state again and feel so helpless.
We initially out this down to malicious behaviour. However, with reflection it is more likely that this done to cause distraction and allow for theft, i.e. someone assists the victim and steals their bags, and/or others leave bags/belongings as they rush to help the victim and come back to find them stolen. Luckily we don't seem to have been the victim of theft in this instance, but I am sure this was the intent.
We didn't let this spoil our holiday, but wanted to warn others.
Also a big thank you to the very kind fellow passengers that immediately came to our aid.
What an awful experience for you all. There is nothing worse than a child who is hurting, I hope is is OK now. Thank you for the post, it is amazing the lengths some people will go to,to scam tourists. I would never have thought there would be any danger in such an inocuous activity..Carol
What a horrible experience for you all. As you said I can't believe the lengths people will go to scam tourists. I am glad to your son is okay now but it must have been awful at the time and would have spoilt your day.
THank you for letting us know as it indicates to me that we have to be on guard at all times in Europe. I know that at home here in Melbourne I verge on being careless walking around the city with my handbag unzipped and hardly give a thought to potential pickpockets or theft. We will really have to be on alert in Europe as I know that petty crime can be a problem there especially with tourists.
I hope you had a great trip besides this incident. Would love to hear about the rest of your cruise.
Thanks Gracie M and Guy. Everyone is fine now and we just chalk it up to experience. It was just scarey at the time because we didn't know what was happening. Cannes is a lovely place and not somewhere you would expect this to happen, so I guess it is just a lesson for us not to be complacent. They would have been very disappointed if they had stolen our bags anyway as they contained mainly nappies, wipes, milk and sun cream!
