    Exclamation It's tricky going in..

    ..so wear water shoes!

This is a view taken from inside, looking back towards the entrance.

The blue bit at left is where you can swim.

Notice all the stones on the floor!
These stones are tricky, even for a practiced local like myself
with toughened soles to my feet -thus my advice re. the water shoes!! ;)

If you're at all unsteady on your feet, this is not the place for you
but you will find somewhere you can get wet, outside the grotto
-a rather nice protected swimming hole, naturally carved out of the surrounding reef structure
about 6.5 feet deep at its centre!

    ..................................................

If you can make it right in to the grotto..

there's a Northward view to be had, looking out the other side
but this was a difficult shot, even for me!

On the first visit of the QM2 to Barbados (Maiden voyage) we had a lovely time in the evening. We went on a boat that leaves Bridgetown and sails around the island. On board they had live entertainment and a buffet of sorts. Met a lot of local people that regularly do the friday night cruise as it is a good night out. The time before in the 70's I did the usual pirate ship with the youngsters asking to throw money overboard to dive for. I believe this practice has now stopped. Another time did the Atlantis trip. Great local fish, sponges etc. Also the tour of the island with ships tour. Great place to visit. I just wonder with all your fab pics if you work for the tourist industry as you would be the perfect ambassador for this position.

Thought Bathsheba is similar to the baths at Virgin Gorda - what do you think?

    There are similarities..
although the coastal boulders along the East coast of Barbados
are larger, darker and rather jagged so be careful.

    The Barbados Green Monkey..

..is a species of VERVET monkey native to West Africa.

Specimens were brought over from Africa, along with the slave trade
three hundred years ago, and look virtually identical to the African vervets.

This little guy in the Military Cemetery was so tame I walked within about six feet of him.
He was happy with his seed-pod, and didn't seem threatened by me or the camera!

This is the same Vervet sp. you'll see in St.Kitts -and maybe some of the other islands too.

    Arrow Horticultural interest?

    .

We call the yellow bits Cloth of Gold.

It's a rambling vine, often found clambering all over the island's sugar-mill walls
It breaks out in glorious golden-yellow flowers for about one week only
    during Dry Season.

Maybe someone knows what the purple bits are?
