Sorry but in my opinion having sailed on her 4 times she was well past her "sell by date" and only kept going by nostalgia.
We sailed on the QE2 on her very last voyage into Dubai... it was very sad.
Now Dubai cannot afford her, bring her back to live again we love her.
It is a pipe dream in todays economic climate even if she could be purchased the cost of restoration would be astronomical
Then to get planning permission from the council to keep her moored would take so long that she would have rusted completely away.![]()
A ship that goes to sea has a large crew to maintain her they are trained in fire fighting, if the ship was tied up on a permanently basis and converted to a hotel she may well not come up to building control standards for fire resistance. Generators/pumps would need to be maintained even if not in permanent use.
Sewage would need to be pumped ashore and water taken onboard the cost of maintenance on these systems alone would be prohibitive.
Next the hotel staff would be paid according to our wage laws
It is a nice idea funding is the problem.

It's a loverly idea, but with a due respect you are all 'dreamers'. No business man/women in there right mind would invest in her to become a UK hotel. There is probably not a good example in the world of a successful hotel ship. She would not make a very nice hotel, either. She has many small and dated cabins. You would get a better room in an Ibis.;)
As I said before, it was the on board atmosphere and the people that were special, not the ship. A Hotel would have none of that atmosphere. Once a ship retires for active service, maintenance becomes lax and they quickly deteriorate.
I stayed on board the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Although I loved her, she is in a sad state in places and has struggled to be profitable for years.
(Read the tripadvisor reviews on the Queen Mary Hotel, they show you what Joe public thinks of her)
Lets hope Cunard buy her back and give her a re fit, that would be great. I would love to go on another voyage aboard such a great liner like the QE2. The new QE inaugural voyage sold out in 28 mins, I would guess she would beat that....
Cynthia, I was intrigued by your "Simons Cat" comment so have just been on Youtube, it is hilarious, obviously produced by a cat lover. I will be passing on that link.. Carol (Sorry to go off the thread)

I think that's highly unlikely as she would struggle against the facilities on the modern ships. I believe this is why she had to re-register to some obscure island to get back to sea for re-use as a hotel in the World Cup. She was not up to spec to be UK registered. I could well be wrong, but I think that's why 'Soutahmpton' was sprayed out on her stern
