OV was about younger people cruising hiring a bike, lots of canoe excursions and buggy cars. :p
How many of you actually hired a bike? :o
As for informal dinning you can do that on Princess or RCCL they both have a mix of informal and formal dinning
Cruising has changed over the last ten years. On my first OV I joined in all the adventure stuff now I am older like many of the fans I don't do bikes. ;)
Yes I am sorry to see them go the concept worked got a lot more people doing cruises, just like us getting older our tastes have changed so have the tastes of the younger generation they like the flow riders and rock climbing ect. :D
I have looked through the shore excursions for my next trip on OV it is very similar to any other line with the exception of bike hire.
Animal farm has come to the cruise world![]()
Thanks for that Spartan. It was a point I made earlier on this thread. Those who prefer the formal dining can stick to what they do on Princess ships and those that don't, can eat in the buffet restaurant. I didn't do the bikes either but had a great time on OV as I did when opting for the MDR on RCCL's Jewel of the seas.
What got my goat......... well I'm not going there again as it's all been said.

Having cruised OV,OV2 and the Sea Princess (three times) I would say they are quite compatable, while OV did not have waiter service, against Princess 'Any Time Dinning' which did, the outcome is roughly the same. In the MDR on Princess you could still enjoy the grand dinning we were used to on cruise ships of old, while the excitment of ATD on the Sea Princess surely is no more than the experience we enjoyed on OV2.
So yes Princess could indeed fill the spot left by the departure of OV's, but only if they can reduce the price of their 'Med' sailings which does not compare with the great deals offered by past OV cruises.
Have either of you ever sailed on Discovery? Any advice/experience would be much appreciated.

Sorry to jump in here Jill but our very first cruise was on Discovery and we liked it very much....small... 800 ish passengers I think...with tips included, excellent food, good lecturers, and reasonable entertainment. This was several years (?6) ago now but it is still run by the same company so shouldn't have changed much.....we had a higher deck cabin but remember looking at the lower deck outsides which were exactly the same size. They do have some unusual itineraries (ours was the Red Sea and through the Suez to Alexandria!!) Obviously it is not a new flashy ship more a 'classic' style which we found comfortable and indeed we were hooked from that moment on and have just completed our 14th cruise!!

Thanks for that Morris. We are going on Discovery in both June (Around Britain) and Jan 2011 (S.America). The ship sounds just our cup of tea. I'm open to trying all the cruise lines, except maybe Costa & MSC, providing the itinerary appeals to us.

That's what baffles me in all this.....
Every cruise ship now has the option of informal dining.
So why the mourning of the passing of this old outdated pair of clunkers?
Do those "Don't do cruising" want to step up to the, formal/informal cruise?
That was the question Neil put forward.
OOH I'm Stirring it again!!!
