we done the sea princess in feb this year our first cruise - we flew thomas cook from edinburgh, we had a problem at check in after an hour in a que we finally got checked in - no explanation was given in that hour that we waited - we finally found out one of their staff had put a 2, 4, 2 on the computor when the plane was actually a 2, 3, 2 we found out on boarding the plane that some of the passengers who paid for 1st class were in 2nd and vice versa so there was a bit of complaining going on - as we were 2nd it didnt affect us and once everything was settled down and on our way it was fine we had okay leg room and we didnt realise you got free drinks until we were getting our dinner - which was okay a little bit better than normal airline food but not great - we arrived in montego bay and took all the way through passport control and to our buses - well mini buses - good thing was our luggage was taken to ship and wasnt long in arriving after us - the ship was fantastic as we did not have anything to compare it to we were just over awed by everything - we choose the anytime dining but tended to phone and book the restuarant for 8 - 8:30 pm as there was 6 of us it was easier as it could get busy altho they gave you a pager the food was fab and we loved getting dressed for dinner and the captains night - we did eat in the buffet restuarant a few times too if we were were too tired after a long day sight seeing - the shows on the ship were great too - we done all our own tours in all our ports apart from samana we stayed on ship - it was cheaper to do this and we found that most of the ship done this - there was always guides looking for business just watch tho they usually dont leave until they get there mini bus full we always had people from our ship with us and we never had any problems - we done the sight seeing and then the beach for a little while then they came back for us - we never paid until we got back to ship. The only thing i can fault princess on is the price of their drinks which was approx 7 dollars for a whiskey !! - we did manage to get a bottle on to the ship when ( we were in barbados ) for our room to have a drink before we went to dinner - it was a chance you took if you got caught - all they would do would take it from you and return it to you when the cruise was finished - we also bought cans of juice and put it in the mini bar - all the staff were really friendly and we had a ball and i am sure you will too - will try to upload some photos - we are off dubia in march with costa and tho we have heard bad reviews we will not let it spoil our holiday after all it is what you make of it not others - if you need any other info just let me know - sorry this is like a book

Thanks Whisker. Don't apologise it made great reading. It is reassuring to note that the plane is reasonably comfortable and the ease of which you got from airport to ship.
It would be lovely to hear about the trips your organised for yourself and what you did. Any tips would be great - either must dos or must don'ts!
I am sure your Costa cruise will be fantastic. As you say, it is what you make of them, and unfortunately people often don't tell you the good things, but all too often if something goes wrong, people tell everybody!!
We also fly out in March and will be celebrating our 40th anniversary in Barbados, so any tips about this place would again be wonderful.
Thanks once again.

Sea princess from montego bay
Returned last Sunday from sea princess tour of the Caribbean.Flew to Montego bay from Gatwick with Thomas cook on Airbus 330.Meals on plane are basic charter fare,1 meal on way out and 1 snack of pasta.Free alcoholic drinks on 3 occasions and 1 ice cream. On return 2 meals which included a poor breakfast and 1 service of free drinks. The plane has a configuration of 3-3-3-seats tapering to 2-3-2 at rear.We were allocated seats midway through the plane on the way out near a window and these were barely adequate for room.On the return we had 2 seats near the back in the centre 3 seats and appeared to get a lot more legroom(row39).Fantastic holiday thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and can not wait to do it all again.Hope those of you already booked enjoy it as much as my husband and i did.

Hi Sheilah, Nice to hear that you enjoyed the cruise - we go in five weeks!!! Was really excited until I have just read a review about the Sea Princess - no sunbeds, smoking in all public areas, etc, etc. They did travel in May so from what you say things must have improved. Did you get into the new sun-deck area? Is it worth paying for?
Again nice to know that you had a wonderful time.

well, the weeks are just wizzing past , ...and the name , I think was "De Palm Island" will ask dave when he gets in , as hes clever at geography...but to me it was Aruba and Tortilla ...literally paradise, lying under the palms, 32 deg heat, pure blue skies, gentle drums being played in the background, then the drifting smells of the gorgeous food , sumptous!!" help your self banquet , and of course loads of huge fresh fruits in ice...ohh gosh I cant wait...and desserts of all sorts ...got a lovely tan and oh we did so wish to stay there ... still there was the stunning ship beckoning us to come aboard , for our 5 course meal ... , before our theatre show, then watch a film under the stars, with waiters bringing us drinks ... we will never ever forget that day !! id lost 3 stones earlier in the year , as had been ill, but was fabulous on holiday ...ate loads , had to go on steroids ... but it was brill! after having a hard life , both of us when we were younger , we had to pinch our selves !! and it was off to to bed , chatting on the way to our fellow guests...tons hugs Coralie and Dave ...you will adore it ...
