Grand Princess 22/05/2010

Hi All,

I have just booked my first ever cruise with my husband, 18mth old daughter and my parents. We have both got mini suites and are all very excited about our trip..

Any advice on the Grand Princess, top tips to get the most from our vacation etc would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
Louise

take plenty of money, apint is a fiver on here and a bottle of wine is 20 quid upwards.
they seem geared up to get you to spend as much as possible on board.

In fairness this applies to most cruise ships, especially American ones, in part because of the exchange rate. If you don't drink like fishes it should not be a major issue.

The 'Grand Class' are VERY impressive ships. You will be amazed how big it is.

Hi, We did our first cruise last year in June it too was on the Grand Princess and thoroughly enjoyed the experience sailing round the Med. I gave Princess 10 out of 10the balcony cabin was excellent as was the service, the food and the entertainment. Since that cruise we have now done the Caribbean and are also booked on the Med again this year in June/July on the Ventura and another winter cruise in Feb 2011 on the Sea Princess. We have become entirely smitten with cruising all because of that first Princess experience. Forget the price of the drinks just drink in the style...... Enjoy.

Just an observation... Is it natural to assume that everyone drinks? Or that they drink so much that the cost becomes an issue?

Hello Louise,

I have recently booked the same cruise, I haven't been on Grand Princess before, but did enjoy Sea Princess a while back.

As for any tips, it is well worth researching the Ports of Call before you go, so that if you wish you can do your own thing, rather than the Ships more expensive tours. From the research I have done so far, the only ships tour we will do is to Brussels.

I have put a link below to some information about Copenhagen, which you might find useful:

Where to stay in Copenhagen?? HELP

It started off as a question about Hotels, but Jesper from Copenhagen has added some very useful ideas about places to see. You need to read all the posts!

Enjoy your cruise! Regards, Lizzie

Having sailed on the Grand twice, let me say she is a nice ship.

She has two faults to avoid, if walking from MDR to theatre use the outside of the promenade deck to miss the very bad bottle neck by the Photo Gallery/Sabatinis and the tables outside the shops.
Good all round room service for breakfast, usually within ten minutes of your stated time.
Best bar Crooners, now called the Promenade lounge bar, easy listening music, or Wheelhouse for games and dancing. Vista lounge also has some good nights, look in paper for details.
Both Theatre & Visa fill up early, sometimes 30 minutes before shows start.

Casino is smoking, except two nights a week.
