Itineraries do make a difference
Just logged onto PO'S website to check excursion's for the 2011 Aurora world cruise, and was amazed to see that the cruise is fully booked. I booked last year when the itinerary came out. The Aurora is sailing around South America across the pacific, visiting some lovely pacific Islands plus sailing past Easter Island,.
Visiting Sydney and Brisbane then circumnavigating New Zealand, back across the Pacific visiting Christmas Island and Hawaii. Mexico, Panama canal, Caribbean then back to Southampton.
It's a great itinerary which certainly grabbed cruisers attention, as this cruise is now closed nine months before the sailing date. What do other member's think of the itinerary?

I think the itinerary sounds great, but I wonder what the definition of a 'world cruise' is if the ship doesn't actually circumnavigate the world.

Perceptive as usual Dave. I think the title of the cruise 'South America and Pacific Grand Voyage' shows that it's a fab itinerary and a long cruise of a great part of the world but it's not actually sold as a world cruise [apart from being in the world cruise segment of the web site]. The Pacific Islands are beautiful, and I would love to go back. Cornish girl should have a great time.

I agree completely, and I like the title 'Grand Voyage' - it sounds very posh. The problem with world cruises that go across the Indian Ocean from Australia, under Africa and up the Atlantic is that there's fewer desirable ports relative to sea-days (if you see what I mean).

Have to confess they do to some extent, but primarily I look for a cruise with the minimum days at sea, so this does imply that the ports of call are what we want to see and not the sea.

We booked this cruise because of the itinary [we hate flying] it's a great way to see all these port's, as for seadays we don't mind them with a three month cruise, a few seadays 'gives you time to recharge your batteries.
We did an 80 days around the world in 2007 again with Aurora, this time we went West to east and visited Hk,Singapore ,Malaysia India and through Suez, that also could not be called a World cruise, however we are also determined to see Alaska and South Africa as and when we can.

It can be a world cruise without circumnavigating the globe, it just can't be a 'Round the World cruise' as that implies circumnavigation ... such are the vagaries of the English language ..

Having done a worldie, I think that a world cruise, by its very name, implies a circumnavigation, as opposed to a Grand Voyage which visits many continents/countries but does not actually go, 'all the way around', just zig zags to and fro!
The Grand Voyage itineraries are very interesting, more so than a worldie, IMO, and we hope to do one or more in the future.

Always thought I would love to do a 'World Cruise' however after doing a 18 day Panama cruise I got so bored with eating fine food & drinking wine every day, after two weeks just wanted to go home.
Would like to visit all those wonderful places again, but somehow don't think these old bones could cope.
Do enjoy your cruise anybody who is doing it, love to read the review about that one.

Before I started cruising I used to think I'd love a world cruise (or grand voyage), but now - like tenpin - know that so many days of eating, drinking, etc would drive me mad. I'm happier to do more cruises of around 14 days (or longest so far is 21 days, which was great), I think.
