We have been on OV 3 times - our 4th and final trip will be on 31st August. Tapas and Togas. We are wondering if anyone who does the same cruise earlier than this could let us know if they visit the coliseum independently of OV - we are aware that the trips with OV can be a bit pricey!!! Also - Barcelona - the Nou Camp - any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi
You can do Rome independently or OV will do a transfer only coach (£30 is) the coach usually drops off next to St Peters,Do St Peters then get a taxi to the Coliseum.
You can then walk through the Forum,
Find Via Corsa on a map + walk the full length.
All the sights are off this street.
The Pantheon + Piazza Navona off the left.
Trevi Fountain off the Right.
Spanish Steps at the top.
Walk to the river, over the bridge + you can see St Peters again.
Barcelona.
Shuttle bus to bottom of Ramblas then taxi to Nou Camp.
Better still HOHO bus ( £16 ish) for full tour of Barca + it stops at Nou Camp.

As per JC but if you are going independently it is very easy to get to Rome via train. Just walk to the right as you leave the port for about 10 mins for the train station. Tickets are around 9 euros each return (need to validate the ticket via the little yellow machines). Takes about 50 mins to St. Peters (can see the dome from the train) walk through seeing the sights and can return from Termini which is just one metro stop from Coliseum.

Hi. Another thing about getting the train to Rome. At the station ask for a BIRG ticket, as Harry Hastings states approx 9 euros. This ticket allows the return trip to Rome & it can also be used on the buses & metro.
Cheers
