Wonderful pictures. It's ten years since we went to Icealnd, our first cruise, and we are going back this year and really looking forward to it. Thanks. Judith

Thanks for posting the lovely pictures, Spartan. My husband is taking a cruise to Iceland in July (I think it's the same one that Judith is taking) and he's looking forward to seeing the fabulous scenery and hopefully some interesting birds and other wildlife. I'm feeling jealous because I'll still be at school so I'm unable to go. ( Still, two weeks' peace might be some slight compensation!!!) Anyway, in August we're both going on Boudicca to the North Cape, so no doubt I'll get my share of scenery there.
Thanks again for sharing your pics.

Spartan, I too have many of the scenes you've posted. The difference is I went in the depths of winter and during a very cold snap [-27C with windchill, fabulously cold]. The rivers are frozen as are the waterfalls. The spray is frozen on the fences forming icicles. The sea spray/spume is frozen...a true frozen scene. When Lizzie gives me my step by step lesson, I'll post some.

If the ship gets in on time you can get the local bus from town, a short walk in fromt he ship where we docked anyway. Was cheaper when we went but I believe that the pound had gone tbadly down the drain against the Kroner so it is possible a ships excursion might for the moment be good value.

By the way we were told by a Swede that Iceland is Nordic but is not Scandinavian, we never realised the difference.

Krona v Sterling at 177IK to the £ is still a darned sight better than the 119 we got to the £ before the 'crash'.

Big mistake if you use the term Scandinavian to any Icelander to describe outside influence on the Iceland heritage. The influence is Nordic. The French coined the phrase 'Pays Nordique' to group Scandinavia, Finland and Iceland. Just a bit of trivia!
